Damien Dempsey. Very under-rated and tends to have his very early efforts held against him to this day.

Last studio album "Shots" is excellent - well worth a listen. Previous album "Seize the Day" is also quality.

Saw him play at Vicar Street on the 11th and 13th December 06 - Wednesday 13th was exceptionally good.

Got the Director album before Christmas and I must admit I am very very impressed, reminds me a tad of Interpol, of who I am also a great fan.

Can't really look past the Frank and Walters though, their most recent album "A Renewed Interest in Happiness" is top class, going to see them tonight in the Savoy, even though I've seen them 20 or 30 times at this stage I still look forward to their gigs. They're quite simply me daza.

Havn't heard a lot of the bands currently out in the Irish scene, but from what I heard The Blizards and Director are decent. Used to be a massive Frames fan but just got fed up with them.

Best Irish band ever IMO are Stiff Little Fingers. Their playing Leterkenny in March and I can't wait. Would also be fond of a bit of Luke Kelly/The Dubliners from time to time

The Republic of Loose are pretty good , kind of like an Irish chili peppers.

Best Irish band ever - Judas Diary. hard to find any of their stuff anymore but "bring out the king and clowns" and "jolie" might pop up. if anyone knows of (or has)copies of "snakes and ladders" or "me, fred astaire and the musical chair" i would love to get copies.

Reminded me of Blue in Heaven, they were good, Cypress Mine were also a favourite of mine from years back.

Well if we're going retro, The Radiators and The Blades p1ssed all over anyone that came before or after them. OK, maybe not A House, but everyone else bar them.

The Fountainhead were all the rage in the British and American music press in the late 80's but it never happened. I had there name Tippex'd on to my schoolbag in big letters

    Other 80's Irish bands I love(d)

    Cactus World News

    Toasted Heretic

    Judas Diary

    Les Enfants

    The Pale

Take a look at this group on last.fm

Especially the artist connections part for a rather large list of Irish artists:
