Please recommend some Irish bands

Think this might need a thread split if it goes much further into "where are they now?" territiory

Roger have you heard Limericks Giveamanakick ?

They're a bit harder than most of the bands listed so far but still have more hooks than a fishermans in-service day. They sometimes remind me of the first two Therapy? LPs.

Guitarist/Vocalist Steveamanakick also makes records under the name Windings and it's much mellower generally. The albums by both are fantastic.

Cactus World News had their LPs re-issued on CD about two years ago

Toasted Heretic ...were wonderful.

Judas Diary ...I barely remember. From Galway yes?

Les Enfants ...were barely just before my time.

The Pale ...are still on the go.

A House ...what a band. Got to play support to them a few times. Lovely people they are too. Have long considered it a damning indictment of this countrys interest in new music that A Houses farewell gig had to be an early evening show because there was an Oasis tribute band on later that evening.

Into Paradise ...I remember them being popular and tipped but truthfully I just didn't get them.

Yeah, their singer Eoin Killeen was a brother of ex Galway United players Connor and Ronan Killeen. They had a unique original sound and were excellent live. there used to be around 15-20 people on stage they had big brass section, 2/3 drummers,and heaps of other guest musicians.that was probably their problem too many people to make decent money. They were big in Germany they spent a while out there.
they released a few E.Ps in the early to mid 90's. they then seemed to gamble everything on the single "Jolie" which got half way up the Irish charts. It had a ridiculous video with the singer going up and down Grafton St. in a bumblebee suit. It was an OK song but it wasnt near their best song and was a strange choice for a single. They disappeared after that, it was a pity those Roisin Dubh gigs were legendary.

How dare I forget them. Their song "Grateful" was a beautiful tribute to mothers.

Cactus World News... went over the Bridge to oblivion sadly.

Toasted Heretic ... had a few albums out. They had one album in particular, the cover of which was like a Tayto packet and Tayto tried to sue them over it. Anyway I heard a few tracks on radio and they were good. There was rumoured to be a CD re-release a couple of years back, I think it did come out but I cannot be 100% sure about that. I think they reformed in the early noughties too.

Les Enfants.. I was in school with the lead singer, and later got to know the guitarist, and their original drummer was in a line-up of a band I was in , after he left Les Enfants. I remember them being on the Tube and their single reached #89 in the UK Charts.
I have their album. I also was allowed to hear some of the demos they did when Flo McSweeney was co-vocalist with Deric and they were better than the finished album with the changed line-up.

Les Enfants singer Deric went on to form The Big Noise with ex-Pop Mechanics front man Pat... (forget his surname) who was involved with a recording studio in Temple Bar. They put out one album which would have been great except for the tinny nature of the mix. A great live act.

Anyway he gigged with a band just labelled the Derek Herbert Band around 10 years ago. I believe he got a songwriting/publishing deal after that. But has a day job these days owns his own barber shop in North Dublin.

A House's final gig is another example of the fawning Anglo-centrism of the people at large here, the worst example of which is the total lack of interest in the population at large in the Eircom League compared to the throngs in bars watching foreign Premiershi* on SKY SPORTS..... but that's for another thread. I thought the OASIS cover band being on later was a terrible example of that mentality and saw the parallels immediately. I mean it wasn't even the real OASIS, who -by the way -ripped off the name from a band formed by Peter Skellern in the 1980's.

Don't mourn them though Dave Couse is alive and well and still performing.

Stiff Little Fingers are also still on the go.

Humanzi were mentioned earlier on in the thread and I'm a huge fan. Royseven are a quite new, but decent, band aswell.

Just remembered who the Pop Mechanics guy was. Pat Donne( his spelling when he was a Big Noiser)!
Pop Mechanics had a top 20 single in Ireland with a song called " Soldier Boys" and in 1982 they supported Roxy Music at the RDS Main Hall . I was there.

Would that Pat Donne/Dunne have been a house engineer in Sun Studios at any stage? ...early 90's? If so he engineered a session for my old lot.

Not the Stars, they didn't. The Blades were a top band though. As for the Radiators, I'd heard for years about the legendary Radiators album Ghostown - finally bought it on cd last year and it was a major, major, let down. A House were an excellent band it must be said. Most of the other Irish bands mentioned in this thread were rubbish. Craptus World News, Les Enfants, Into Paradise, all muck.

Oh, and Razor, wash your mouth out - Blue In Heaven don't belong on the same musical planet as the Stars of Heaven - they were she-ite.

if you like your singer songwriters you might wanna try declan o'rourke his first album "since kyabram" is excellent...very mellow but still very good

Also saw a guy in dolans a couple of weeks ago supporting the ralfe band called Pinky...crap name but his music was excellent...i cant find any of his music so if you do let me know.

Yeah - lookin forward to Damo's new album. He'll hopefully start to get the recognition he deserves.

"Shots" didn't get the attention it warranted.

Saw him at Vicar Street in December and he was the business.
