only one team voted against it, rocky city, so how can a team sue of they signed up for it?Originally Posted by londonred
Aside from all the Quinn chat, I'm surprised at how little outcry there is about the authorities making a complete joke out of the league.
What else can you call it when they decide to bin one of the most basic principles of competitive sport, that of a team's position in its league being decided by its results?
Is there another league anywhere in the world where the respective divisions are decided by a committee, rather than by wins, draws and losses?
At least the Italians had the decency to try and hide it when they were stitching things up.![]()

Can't see us going down , but going by last 5 seasons results they make shocking reading , partly due to Don O'Riordan and also because the club sorted things out off the pitch during the long sabbatical in the first division , funds were denied for team rebuilding while other aspects were sorted out don't know how this gets factored into the equation when the points are being dished out given the amount of times we have been shafted by the FAI in the past I would be slightly worried.

are we still whining about this. its done. the FAI have decided to enforce licencing. the only clubs fans (unless you are a chf fan, your club voted for this) still flogging this dead horse are serial complainers.
someone has to enforce the rules. and if spunking your money in the prem on players while galway and sligo built stadia in the first means you get punished, good.
we need a level playing field when it comes to issues like tax and corporate structures and the only way to make teams sort their act out is threaten their premier statues, good. its no concidence the only two teams who are 100% tax compliant are in the 1st while the two teams on the recieving end of winding up orders from the revenue are at the top of the premier.
and if those results are as a result of not paying tax while the team immediatly below you does, allowing you to offer 20% more per player? no-other league tolerates players at the (not current, but very recent) league champions be paid in coins, some clubs pay vat on gate reciepts, some clubs not return accounts to the CRO, some not have an independent audit, one runs up many multiples of its income in debt and has no medium to long term plan to buld a stadium or even share etc. the fundamentals have to be fixed to allow a professional league. and if that involved UCD for stadia, or CHF for debt levels or whover being bumped at the expense of the immaculatley run galway, the transparantly run rovers or a resurgant limerick, well thats the bed these clubs made for themselves, good and bad. too many teams are content to hang on in there and enough is enough.Originally Posted by Fivesilver

There's pages and pages about it elsewhere. Utter joke. Even for the FAI.Originally Posted by Fivesilver

PS,
you overwhelmingly lost the argument, both on here and at vote.
its boring.
This is nothing to do with the vote.
You said Galway are an "immaculately run club". I laughed and showed how they weren't. Ball's in your court. Try and stay on topic this time.

they are for the purposes of this debate. they remained on budget, built up their stadium, brought in a big name marketing guy. good youth set up, tie ins with local clubs. things are going well in a sustainable fashion. in other words the antithisis of UCD and CHF.Originally Posted by pineapple stu

the vote wasnt passed by 19 of the 20 clubs who bothered showing up? (shels and who didnt btw?) including UCD? its the way forward and rather than moan about conspiracy theories about why delaney is after club x or y in favour of whoever, do the sums yourself. its all trasparent except for a minor component. and the sums seem to say that there will be no significant changes to the premier sidesOriginally Posted by Dodge
just stop boring people with complaining about it. **** the begrudgers, we need the off the pitch rules enforced for a sustainable professional league. and thats what this will do.
Not a UCD fan but LOL @ that bitOriginally Posted by Roverstillidie
There's more people complaining about it, froma broader spectrum of clubs than there are defending it, and nobody tells you to shut the **** up, much as some might like to.just stop boring people with complaining about it.
Like they did with licensing? What was wrong with that? What makes you think the same body will be better at enforcing the new thing?**** the begrudgers, we need the off the pitch rules enforced for a sustainable professional league. and thats what this will do.
I've no problem with Rovers fans backing this (I'd do the same if I was them) but if you can't answer any odf the questions posed, don't bring the level of debate down to "you're boring me"...

well what else have UCD spent their money on? stadium? facilities? they could justify their existence a lot easier when they were a student(ish) side 10 years ago. can they anymore? what makes them a special case these days?
what are the actual questions being posed im ignoring? wild conspiracy theories that delaney (who i am far from a fan of) is out to get UCD?
the chikens are coming home to roost for everyone. some clubs are working hard to run themselves as businesses with links to local communities. others arent putting those resources in and spending it all on the football side and thats not acceptible.
when the structures are in place, then fine, spend away. but not paying tax credits when your rivals are is cheating. and the FAI claim they will eliminate this culture. whether they do or not is another story, but the EL have abjectly failed.
licencing failed because the league had no sanction if they were broken other than removal. now they will have a range of sanctions, and rightfully so.
see CHF's CRO returns. shels lack of returns. maguires folly before he was removed. it has to stop and the UCD fans hollering for the old order is self serving and a detriment to the long term future of the game here. oh no, you have to field a youth team. oh no, a reserve side too. and pay tax? never!!!
what are the alternatives? see all our stadiums sold to speculators to pay day to day bills? someone has to implement a ceiling if even temporary

UCD were prevented from investing in facilities due to the college. UCD were set to go ahead and redevelop the Belfield Park but the college decided to build on top of the facility. We're now moving to our new ground and have secured funding to do so. We haven't held back so we could spend money on players. UCD are tax compliant and don't owe nothing to the revenue. We have a good structure for bringing through talent and have won the last two U-21 leagues.
We in fact do owe nothing to the revenue.Originally Posted by Poor Student
