Underlines the need for the league to be developed systematically, instead of individual clubs vainly chasing glory in Europe.
But great for the rest of us!Originally Posted by thejollyrodger

I was hoping Shels would win today ....Hard luck lads.
Disapponting for shels. Who knows what would've happened if theyd scored that penalty.
Terrible result for the League. The only saving grace is the 2 Bob doesn't effect our coefficient .
Odense sold their Brazilian centre forward for 5 million euro during the week. He might have made a difference.
Actually, we'd have gotten two points from the first leg, so it'd've benefitted us to have the results counting for the coefficients.Originally Posted by CollegeTillIDie

With so many games in europe these days it was bound to happen that we had a day were it all went wrong. Missed peno and missed countless other chances and the Danes put theirs away. These things happen in football, should Pats pack it in in the league because shels beat them 3-0 in the league last week?
We won through the first round against the seeded team. We lost in the away leg of the 2nd round against a better side.
Don't go overboard

As was pointed out we have two wins and one defeat in three games. If that was the ratio of all of our european sides we wouldnt have to be playing seeded teams like we are.Originally Posted by CollegeTillIDie

United played Odense in 1991 after just one league game the previous saturday against Cork City with a completely part time squad weakened by the departures of Cup Heroes Johnny Glynn,Paul Campbell and Tommy Keane and were beaten by the same scoreline by a far better odense team.
the result was on the Sky Sports screen about every 2mins yesterday, as there were very few other sporting results to 'ticker tape' along the bottom.Originally Posted by Dodge
It was also on RTE News last night. So wouldn't be fair to say no-one knew it was on, as unfortunately the score was well-reported.
I think Shels might sneak a home win or draw. Odense will assume they're through, and look to save a few players. 1:0 to Shels or 1:1, and a degree of pride restored.
I take it you were at both games?Originally Posted by gufct

To take this result on its own is stupid!!!
I thought EL fans would know that.
By your way of thinking when we drew with deportivo 0-0 the Spanish FA should have gave up.
3-0 in one game lads, get over it. Rogers had a disaster by all accounts and these things happen. Even the sky Sports greats of Real, Man Utd etc have been on the worng end of similar scorelines.
1 game and your all depressed?
