Would be really great to get a song that doesn't ape the brits ..e.g. in Paris, people singing (complete with English accent) "Thierry Henry, yer 'aving a larf"
    correct, correct & correct.

an intelligent race such as ourselves should be able to manage more than the one line!

i know it is associated with celtic but something like - 'this land is my land' or even a blast of 'the one road' like in lansdowne V holland

it has to be either very familar or short (ish) in order for the masses to pick up on it

That would be brilliant but you're probably right about it being too complicated.

I dont want to bring the anti Celtic brigade down on me but what about the Celtic anthem 'Over and Over'? All we have to do is substitute 'Irish' for Celtic. Easy few lines and when sung en masse will lift the hairs on back of your neck. Last few mins of UEFA Cup final in Seville when we knew it was over every single celtic fan stood and belted this out. Jesus there were tears everywhere but very emotional
"Being Irish, he had an abiding sense of tragedy which sustained him through temporary periods of joy."

i'd be inclined to agree with you mayo (obviously risking the wrath of the so-called anti-celtic brigade) but what exactly goes instead of 'glasgow celtic' in the over and over song - perhaps 'irish footballers?'

we honestly do have so many songs to choose from that we should never use altered english songs particular discrace was 'thierry henry...' but also many others over the years.

at this stage if you think of any irish song it is automatically linked with celtic but there is no reason why we cannot use them for national team also - celtic supporters sing irish songs in order to identify with their irish roots so why can't irish supporters sing irish songs to do the same!!!

I really miss "Molly Malone". I still remember it being sung loud and clear the last time we were in Stuttgart but it seems to have fallen from grace (bit like Mollly herself).
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Hows about an adaptation of The Pogues song Jacks' Heroes

Could go: TURALOU, turalou, TURALOU, turalou,
And we'll follow the Irish whatever we do!

*obviously depending on results/tactical decisions/substitutions etc

    Stan by your man
Give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
When the nights are cold and lonely

    Stan by your man
And show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
    Stan by your man

A variation on the ''Ouest est Makalele?'' .....''We've got Duff'' (from Paris)

''Wo ist Jurgen Klinsmann?''.... ''We've got Stan''

    fields of Athenry

If there was any one song that gets a crowd going its this one. The best rendition in recent years was when Munster beat Leinster in Lansdowne. It nearly brought the roof down. I know we're singing it years but it has faded a little recently would love to see it come back with a bang.

I think it's a shame that the chorus to Molly Malone (Alive, Alive-O...) has disappeared from the rugby song list. Now that it's no longer the preserve of the rugby guys (or should I say goys?) I think it's about time the soccer crowd claimed it. It's catchy, uplifting and unmistakably Irish, even if it is a Dublin song.

The Fields of Athenry is great but wearing a little thin in my opinion. It's just too ubiquitous these days I think. My English wife asks if we ever stop singing that song and I think it's lost the impact it used to have.

Also, as the final whistle approaches I look forward to singing "Two nil to the boys in green".

Que Sera Sera , whatever will be will be, we're going to eat Swiss cheese, que sera, sera.

Instead of the most misused song in history "You'll Never Beat the Irish" how about "We always win in Stuttgart"? Before the game anyway!

    Sorry...
