Revenge for 2002
Just bought a map of Dublin. I hope I can find it all, but it shouldn't be a problem with all the tips here. Thanks.
Been to most grounds. Dalymouth and Tolka Park are very nice, old grounds. It's a shame if they will knocked down. Although St. Pats was closed. Can someone provided me some pictures of that ground that I can use on my site?
Another question, whta means "Football in Dublin" in Irish? Dublin is Baile Atha Cliath or Ath Cliath, I think.
Btw, Ireland was evry nice. Will definitely visit it again in the future.
Hey Joris, were you wearing a hooped Fred Perry top at the Bohs v Derry game?Originally Posted by Joris

How bad was the ref in your opinion?!!

Baile Átha Cliath means Dublin town- though everyone takes it to mean Dublin city
Áth Cliath means Dublin
football in dublin is "Peil in Áth Cliath"
you often see the word "sacar" to refer to football too.sacar being the Irish for soccer
Joris were you at the Shels v Finn Harps game by any chance?
It seems that no one has answered this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hill_16_%28Croke_Park%29Originally Posted by Joris

No, but I saw that guy. So I wasn't the only one who was taking pictures. The ref was quite bad. He seems to have no primacy (hope this is the good word) over the players. Also the level of football was a little bit dissapointing. Not much players with good tactical knowledge (although the number 10 of Bohs can be quite good). The atmosphere was quite good, I thought. Not many people (do you know the attendance of the match?), but good atmosphere. If I go to matches in Europe when there are not many people, you don't have any atmosphere. But here it was.Originally Posted by el punter
Bohs v Derry was the only game I went to. Was planning to go to Shelbourne v Odense, but my girlfriend wanted to see Armagh v Donegal in Croke Park. That was nice to see, althought we didn't understand all the rules. At Lawnsdowne Road I met the most agressive groundsman ever. He was very angry that I took pictures of the ground. Then I played my role as a foreigner and did as I didn't understand English.
Was planning to go to that game, and the UCD game the day before, bit it was impossible. The first 3 days we were staying in Camac Valley and we couldn't take the bus to there if we went to that match. It''s a shame, because I really like Tolka Park. Very nice that old grounds. Unluckily you don't see that kind of ground in our top level anymore. Every stadium in our top division is all-seater clone. Very boring.Originally Posted by LeixlipRed

It seems that the Osama Bin Laden was hiding himself in that ground and the groundsman was his best friend.
Yeh they've been letting terrorists (also known as FAI officials) hide out in Lansdowne for years now
Yeah the Bohs and Derry fans would be among the best in the league in terms of making some noise.Originally Posted by Joris

Dublin Football grounds should be featured on maps more prominently and included in tourist bumph. The EL should insist on it and should do more to promote themselves as places for tourists to visit. It's a passing trade admittedly but given the proximity of certain hotels to some Dublin EL grounds a potential market. At least as reliable as trying to get more natives to attend games!
Bohs were once upon a time a bastion of Anglo Irishness,( had a connection with Trinity hence the Black and Red colours) some people do not know their own club's history.Originally Posted by el punter

Dublin City does that brilliantly. A very small club, but in a lot of shops I found merchandise of the club. You don't saw any merchandise of other clubs in the shops.Originally Posted by CollegeTillIDie
think you might be confusing generic dublin merchandise with Dublin city merchandiseOriginally Posted by Joris
That's because a chain of shops, Carrolls, primarily aimed at tourists, sponsor Dublin City.Originally Posted by Joris
