Congrats to Shels.
Raheny, what kind of crowd was there?
I would not take anything from this game. It was a training excerise. They were poo, we were nothing special. We will have to up our performance by a good bit for next sat. That team would have to be the worst team I ever seen in Tolka - they would not look out of place in St. Annes...................Originally Posted by thejollyrodger

Shocking. At the beginning of the week I predicted nothing more than 2,000ish - I couldn't be far offOriginally Posted by Poor Student

Can't imagine having three sent off helped. Were they overly physical or indisciplined, or just unlucky? First was a professional foul according to the Shels site, and the others two yellows.Originally Posted by Raheny Red
One or two disgraceful tackles but apart from that nothing really. The game felt like a training exercise and we will have to improve greatly if we want to get to Scotland.

You consider 2000 for a Shels game shocking or you mean you predicted wrongly?Originally Posted by Raheny Red
Neither, I consider a crowd of 2,000 for a European tie shocking. i'd say about 1,800 present. Maybe other Red(wo)men can agree/disagreeOriginally Posted by Poor Student

Shels advance as Lithuanians finish with eight
Shelbourne advanced to the second round of the Intertoto Cup this evening and did in emphatic fashion, winning 5-0 on aggregate against Lithuanian side FK Vetra. The sending off of the visitors' Juluis Raliukonis after just four minutes set the tone for the game and the Lithuanian side finished with eight men after three red cards.
Jason Byrne didn't start but helped himself to two goals in a 4-0 win on the day for Shels. Raliukonis was sent off on four minutes after he tugged back at Glen Crowe as the striker bore down on goal. Shels' pressure finally paid off on 35 minutes as Bobby Ryan's cross carried all the way into the Vetra net.

Fair play to Shels - even if the performance wasnt great at least 5-0 sounds good. Dissapointing crowd - I know there would have been more if not for World Cup but still expect a half decent crowd for a Euro tie
I think the attendence figures will increase the longer run we get in this inter to to ... you can only beat what is in front of you and Shels certainly did that last night. The next round will be more meaningful but if its a Djurgardens side in terms of ability were in with a shout.
Well there is only a possibility of 2 home games to look forward in this comp. The game against Odense there will be a crowd of 2,200 - 2,800. If we get Hibs then that will be a full house. I don't know what to expect from this lot next Saturday but hopefully there lack of preparation will pave our way to Edinburgh!Originally Posted by thejollyrodger

i cant see us turning over hibs though...if we do it will be a major step up for us.
It depends. On their day, they're better than Shels, but they're out of season. Vetra put them out of the Inter Toto last season. No guarantee they'll even reach the final.Originally Posted by thejollyrodger
They are already in it, there are only 3 rounds this season and that is when Hibs come in. In other words Shels are in the Semis of a European CompetitionOriginally Posted by Poor Student

Here's the draw. Look at the 2nd round, match K. Hibs will be playing Dinaburg from Latvia in the semis.Originally Posted by Raheny Red
Not true, Hibs have to play a Lativan team or a Faroe Islands team first before going on to meet the winners of our game.Originally Posted by Raheny Red
You would think the Lativan team would be stronger, but the first game in Lativa finished 1-1 with the second leg on today I believe.
Whoops just saw the Latvian team won 1-0 so scrap everything that I said above. Still though if they can only beat a team from the Faroes 2-1 on agg they can't be up to much.
I also see that some Finnish crowd hammered Carmarthen 8-1 on agg. Thank god it is Drogheda and not Longford going to Helsinki
Oh right, apologies for my ignorance, I thought they went straight into the third round![]()
