It's a bit of a gamble but the best of luck to him and his lack of knowledge of the GUFC scene may actually be of benefit.

It hasnt been officially announced yet tho has it? Wow....go Tony! Its a bit mad that Drogs announced it b4 Galway....u think Drogs would have held off and allowed GUFC their moment of glory and news worthiness.

Drogheda should have felt obliged to supress this information until the press conference really but generally the news spreads one way or another anyway.

Good luck Tony....a decent skin....I forgive him for not getting me my tickets to last years cup final as promised!

Am a bit worried too that he mite convince Jimmy Fullam to go to Galway too....Jimmy Snr & Tony are good mates.

Will stop being paranoid bout things when have had a coffee.....

    Pity Drogheda didnt

wait until 1.35. Best of Luck to Tony very higly thought of at Rovers and Drogheda and will be out to prove himself. His new assistant will be Galway based and will be a popular choice. Glad to see democracy and common sense prevailling.

What makes you think Monaghan have great players and Galway would even be interested in them?.

Whao there Magic Me...... all these signings youre talking about.....we didnt win the lotto you know. Our squad is talented enough to go up as it is with maybe one or two signings for midfield in preparation for Premier Division next year! We just need Tony to get the best out of them

yeah as I said.....first reaction was paranoia!! Ha Sligoman.....just like Sligo would never have dreamed of luring a mons player away coz there is absolutely no way that we could have a talented player on our books!!

Jimmy F is a good player but I doubt u would want him Galway anyways.

Am sure you will have a few changes in the transfer window tho?

GUFCT I thought the new manager had to be based in Galway? You can't have a full time manager living 125 miles away. Is he goin to fly to carnmore to get a lift to training?

Yes, ye had one and we took him but that doesn't mean the rest of the squad are as good as Foyzer, I mean, ye are in last place at the moment.

I didnt say any of them are even fit to shine Foyzers boots but there are a few talented young players on our books. Stephen Finnegan, Jimmy Fullam, Jim Murphy and Paul Whelan to name a few. Sure we are bottom....but not for long!

    The new manager had to

be the best man for the job full stop. I think of the canidates he was the best. As one of the canidates felt he was bigger than GUFC im sure we have got the right man.

To be fair to that candidate he IS bigger than GUFC!

When I saw the list of candidates I said I'd have liked Cousins so I'm happy with the appointment. He's worked at Rovers and a very well run Drogheda side over the last few years so has good experience and I'm sure he'll do a good job with us.

It's part of a general trend of young-ish managers taking over that has been very prevalent in the EL in recent seasons: Fenlon, Kenny, Farrelly, Doolin, Kerly, O'Connor... etc. I know very little of Tony Cousins and the challenging thing for him is that (a) he's taking over in the middle of a season and (b) there is a general expectation for immediate success (i.e. promotion).

Perhaps there is the potential for some decent Drogs players who're not getting their game joining us on loan?
WWS - are you gonna fall back on your trade if your betting goes pear-shaped?

I take it your on about Goughie?

If so i think it's a black mark on Cousins book already.Goughie is a good captain and an excellent keeper but that's it.He shouldn't be apppointed assistant manager IMO.I've heard one or two stories about Goughie not been the "gent" we all know him for.
Also all our hopes that the new manager would come in,not knowing the GUFC scene and have a totally unbiased view are tarnished with hiring a player as assitant coach.
