    Matthew Connolly - Arsenal

    Just read on the Arsenal website that this fella is on stand by for the English under 19s....

    I thought he was one of ours, sorry if this is old news, but this fella can play a bit...

    He was called into at least one under-19 squad for Ireland, but has since played in the England underage setup.

    That turnaround is unusual, isn't it? Normally it's the other way around for players who've played for Ireland and England set-ups, England first and then Ireland.

    Think he's just training with them. Soemthing like they did a few years ago with the like of Dawson when he was still at Forrest..

    As said. If he's English he's English.

    Still though. It's always nice to hear stories like Kilbane when he was at Preston with Sam Allardyce (I think). Story goes that Big Sam called him in to his office to inform him of the good news of an England underage call up, expecting a good response. To which Kev declined cos to Sams dismay he considered himself purely Irish. That's Braveheart sh!t that is!!

    Seen Connolly a few weeks back captaining Arsenal reserves against Chelsea. The guys around me assumed he was Irish. He played very well.
