    Limerick Annual Over-40's Tournament 2006

Its that time again...when hundreds of overweight, out of shape, alcoholic has beens get together and raise a lot of money for charity in the Boro club. Although, some of the recruitment and training thats been going on in latter years is making it into a very competitive, sought after tournament.

Star look strong...Deco Higgins, Pat Boland, Eugene Peters, Windy Hogan etc...and Pike have a decent side too...Dobber Lipper, John Walsh, Eddie Donovan, Greg Moloney,

Don't be shy...come up and pay your money. Its a great weekend, great banter, singsongs and a few quid for local charities....

It was won by Geraldines, who beat Janesboro 3-1 in the final. Aisling Annacotty and Fedamore were the beaten semi-finalists. It was a fine weekend of fun football, near heart attacks and a lot of alcohol consumption.

A lot of money was raised for local charities and the Boro did very well out of the bar receipts.

The worlds worst ever junior soccer referee, Mr. Noel Dunphy, wowed the crowd yet again to win the singing contest with a hip shakin; knee tremblin' concoction of Elvis, Cliff Richard and Noel Dunphy tunes.

Many moons ago I was managing a sadly now defunct junior team, and was doing the line out in Cappamore. Noel was refereeing in his usual inept manner when one of our lads went down with cramp. Seeing as we were losing, and trying to run down the clock to spare ourselves a bad hiding, I asked Noel if I could go out and treat the injured player. He waved me on, and when I got out, he blew the whistle to play on. He then ran over to book me for being on the pitch. I started laughing whilst walking off the pitch and he ran after me and started roaring profanities at me and sent me off. Seeing as I wasn't actually playing, I handed the flag to one of the subs and went over talking to a few of the lads I knew out there. 5 minutes later, he stops the game again, runs over to me and tells me he sent me off, that I was to leave the ground immediately, and to stay a minimum of 30 metres away. It was priceless. 20 mins after the game, he sent off one of our lads for questioning one of his decisions earlier in the game. The man is a legend. We spent about 2 hours afterwards ripping the p1ss out of him every time he came up to me looking for his match fees. I'd run 30 yards away from him and tell him he'd have to rescind the red card in order to get paid...poor old Noel...

Priceless. He is a true leeeeegend. He once reffed a match which a was apart of and he fell over and booked himself and said sorry to both teams for not keeping up with play.
