    O'Neills Summer Sixes

O'Neills Summer Sixes, Kilkenny. Sunday 18th June 2006

Fancy making money playing soccer. This June sees the launch of the inaugural O’Neills Summer Sixes, a six-aside tournament open to all from 16 to 60. A prize fund of €1,800 is up for grabs, with the winning team collecting a first prize of €1,000.

All this for just one days work as the event is run off over a single day, Sunday June 18, with each team being guaranteed a minimum of 3 group matches. The venue is Evergreen’s Kells road ground and the entry fee is just €160 per team.

O’Neill’s Manager of soccer development, Tony Carroll is hoping that event will become a regular date on the soccer calendar. “Throughout Europe prestigious tournaments take place every summer, attracting teams from all levels of the game. Here in Ireland we need similar events and O’Neills, in partnership with Evergreen FC, hope to be at the forefront of this aspect of the game”. O’Neills, traditionally associated with supplying GAA equipment, have in recent years become kit suppliers to several high profile Eircom League clubs, including current champions, Cork City. This has proven very successful and they are now one of the leading providers of soccer kit and equipment throughout all levels of soccer.

Veteran Evergreen player and tournament organiser, Kevin Cashin is also excited about the tournament. “It is a proven concept that we expect will attract a lot of interest around the south-east. Also there are many good players out there who are not attached to any club. For them, it is an ideal platform to show their stuff and maybe pick up a little holiday money along the way.
