Late goal gives Shels all three points


Shelbourne have finally ended Derry City and Stephen Kenny's hoodoo over them. Kenny's run stretched back to his Bohs days and Derry's stood at nine games. A late goal from Jason Byrne as he poked home a ball across goal decided tonight's game and lifts Shelbourne up to second in the eircom League Premier division table.

Byrne had had a very quiet game up to that stage, missing Shelbourne's best chance of the game in the first half as he volleyed over from six yards. The first chance of the game arrived after four minutes when Kevin McHugh's hooked volley just went the wrong side of the Shelbourne post. They went closer on eight minutes but still there was no joy as Ciaran Martyn’s header bounced off the crossbar and went over.
