will reveal four candidates who have applied for the United job already, as per sources at newspaper. Should be interesting reading.

Absolutely Pa, and good old-fashioned investigative journalism for good measure. Any ideas who it might involve? As a former United legend, have you applied yourself?

    The shop street

rumour mill is started in earnest. If not Fat Pat who PD? i guess Don is an obvious one and shoddy roddy.

Roddy'd be too risky for this board in my view. I wouldn't be a fan anyway.

Lets hope they are 4 viable options. Galway City need a club to be proud of. The players need to sweat blood for the shirt.

    So any more rumours?

    Thought he would apply.

SKi is a very confident individual and would try to bring back some of the swagger that was a hallmark of GUFC back in the day.

Against that, he was the manager 17-18 years ago.

    Taken from the Connacht Tribune

"It is believed Joey Malone, who was manager when United won the 1991 FAI Cup, has thrown his hat in the ring to take over from Stephen Lally….

The other former manager understood to have expressed an interest in returning to the dugout is Don O’Riordan, while Tony Cousins and former St. Pats and Shamrock Rovers manager Liam Buckley are also understood to have made contact with the club….

Another former player who is also being mentioned as a possible candidate - though he is not believed to have made any contact with the club at this early stage is Stuart Ashton"

    Opinions on those names?
Only 1 at this stage i'd be against is Don.I'd say he has little or no chance though.

Would buckley teaming up with cousins do a good job for Utd.

I keep hearing ashton, is he any good? Keep don o riordan away from the club. He was manager already and failed.

I wouldn't agree to having Don back to be honest. He did quite well when he was here but I don't think he commands enough respect from older players.
Tony Cousins would be a gamble; I don't know much about him.
    Ski was before my time.
Liam Buckley is interesting - a very good knowledge of the game. Won the league at Pat's but they had a good team. Has a softly-softly approach. I like him as a person and I would make him the best pick of this quartet.

    JW,

To what extent did Dolan have influence over team matters at Inchicore at the time ? While Buckley was manager, to what extent did he win the League for Pats. From the outside, Buckley looks like a good choice, and maybe he is, but his record must be put under scrutiny.

Ashton is a former United player who has been in charge of the Cork City U-21s for the past few seasons. He has been very successful there.

    PD.

    PD.

Liam Buckley was manager and Dolan had no influence over team matters that season, his role was that of general manager, the team and tactic's were Bucko's.

IMHO you would progress well on the field under Liam with possibly TC as his assistant. Finally, he certainly doesn't have a softly softly approach to football although his persona would lead you to believe he had.

When choosing a manager the first thing we should look at is success achieved at that level, and taking that into consideration it would put Liam Buckley in the lead for that position.

Can any Rovers fans give us any info on what they taught about Buckley during his time there and anything that he achieved? To be honest I dont know as much about him as I should.

    The Fat Man is still

    in the wings despite rumours.

Forget about who gets on with the players or not Don was royally shafted by our erstwhile board despite keeping us up and buying some of the best players we have had in the last decade.Certain players were to the forefront in blackening his name afterwards but he got us back to the premier and kept us there.

Liam Buckley would be a good choice but he would have to live down here and Tony Cousins wouldnt come here to be assitant as he already holds that post with Drogheda.

    new boss

hopefully the board will go for someone who has some gra for utd. i wouldn't like to see the club put at risk by someone like roddy c comin in and demanding this and that from the board or else he's gonna walk. whoever gets the job should be made aware of what budgets he has to work within and whats expected of them. pat dolan seems to have maroon running through his blood although i'd be concerned at the manner of his fallouts with other clubs. If the right long term appointment is made this could be the start of something big in galway. the board are doing great work behind the scenes.

PLEASE DON'T GO FOR ANY QUICK FIXES!!!
