I've tried to get the word out via boards.ie and some Leinster forum.

But rugby is a bandwaggon sport anyway, they're used to attending games once in a blue moon.Originally Posted by pete

I would have thought they'd be exactly the kind of people we're aiming this at. I've mooted a free admission game with a lot of promotion before; this is the next best thing. Doesn't matter that we don't have a home game for a month afterwards - would be better to have one the next week alright, but no reason not to try something different.Originally Posted by Poor Student
How about free entry for anyone wearing a ucd scarf or jersey? I just dont see a bunch of leinster fans coming back again and again. Its an interesting idea from a marketing point of view i'll give u that, i dont like the idea but im always one for new ideas, we do need more fans. Lock the thread and re-open it in a month or two and see if the attendances have risen or if anyone has noticed any increase in our fan base. And is this free in for wearing a leinster jersey a one off?

It's a one-off, yep.
If scarf and jersey sales are up noticeable, it'll have worked!Plus, then the people have a tangible reminder of the club at home.
I'd like a free gate some game - maybe a dead game towards the end of the season. It's been done before at other clubs (Rovers, Oldham) and been successful. You get a huge crowd which then drops away a fair bit over the next few games obviously, but you do generate a lot more awareness and it's a lot more likely people will come back.
I'd be much more in favour of that than a free in for leinster rugby wearing people. Why didnt they just have free in for everyone this week would have boosted the crowds even more

By adding a querk like the Leinster jersey you're actually more likely to get people's attention. We're also specifically targeting the Leinster supporting public as people who actually attend live sport in the area and have none to attend this summer.Originally Posted by lefty
Ive one, why not let everyone who has a six pack of beer shoved done their pants get in for free? Yes were targeting a specific segment alright, people who follow a different sport. Get ready to help these lads when they shout on scrum, and knock on. At least a gold old fashioned kick in the head is the same in both sports except they call it a ruck

I've been asking on a Leinster forum (never thought I'd see the day I'd be posting on one!) if anyone noticed the advertising and one poster said he hadn't but he had been handed a flyer offering a fiver off if shown on matchday. It seems we're going all out with this one.
At the Munster v Perpignan game reading in the programme about the 10 year tickets to new Thomond Park stand - guy behind reading it over my shoulder & remarks "...jeez you'd have to go to a lot of games for that..." (ticket entitles to 3 ERC & 4 Celtic League match tickets + option to buy others...)Originally Posted by Bald Student

You just know that there will be people who will wear their Leinster jersey going through the turnstiles and then take it off as soon as they reach their seats.
So you're going to let a bunch of glory hunters in for free wearing the shirt of a team that plays another sport, but charge the usual bunch of Derry fans who make the 8 hr round trip to Dublin 7 or 8 times a year 15€ in - way to reward loyalty and passion, guys
A patriot is someone who knows how to hate his country properly.
If the Derry lads want to wear Leinster jerseys, nothing's stopping them. It'd be better than the Superman outfits they usually wear.
This is about us increasing our home support. Derry aren't getting put out in any way at all.
I like Derry anyway, but the fact that it seems to be the most rugby free city on the Island is a big plus ....I can't see them in the national costume of the southside tosser somehow; though they could drop by the library and steal the shirts off the backs of a few Ronans and Conors sleeping off the night before in Bondi Beach i supposeOriginally Posted by pineapple stu

We are in a rugby heartland. Oddly enough a lot of our fans also like rugby. We're trying to get rugby fans who don't pay much notice to the EL so follow us. It mightn't work but it's a novel idea.

I too like Derry and hate rugby; but ultimately this isn't about them, to be honest. This is about what Aberdonian Stu said. Derry fans aren't losing out on anything.
