    Duff to Spurs?

in todays standard over here in england.

ya heres an excerpt from the article:

at spurs, it would be a different story. head coach martin jol was forced to use edgar davids as a makeshift left-midfield player last season due to a shortage of options on that side.

The response was encouraging enough to leave spurs weight up a club record offer - in excess of £11m - for the irish international.

Great move for Spurs and Duff and Ireland if it happens in my view.

I wouldn't be surprised. They appear to be after a left-winger with Middlesbrough telling them to keep their hands of Downing. That would be good.

There may be legs to this story, Mourinho has stated on more than one occasion that he doesn't want to buy another wide player as he has 4 (Duff, Robben, SWP and Cole) but reports from Portugal indicate he's interested in the U-21 captain, Ricardo Quaresma, who is a winger. If Duff, or any of the wide players, were to move, then he would be the ideal replacement

Love to see Duff go to Spurs - then we'd start to see the best out of him. However Id say its just speculation - Just look at the amount of players Spurs have been linked with

Spurs got rid of an awful lot of midfield players I posted this on another thread but this is spurs midfielders

    Carrick
    Jenas
    Tanio
    Murphy
    Reid
    Lennon
    Routledge
    Ziegler
    Davids

Routledge and Ziegler were out on load and Davids is on his way to Ajax probaby.

Again it's paper talk but Murphy, Routledge, Ziegler and Davids have all been linked with moves away from Spurs. Plenty of room for Duffer. Duff on the left and Lennon on the right, proper old fashioned team with 2 out and out wingers then.

But i thought it would be SWP to leave if any of the Chelski's wingers were leaving.

With Duff going into the last year of his contract his future has to be sorted out in the summer. Mourinho likes him so would probably offer him a new one (or probably already has) and if Duff doesn't want to sign it he'll be sold. Unless Duff signs a new contract this summer I doubt very much Chelsea will keep him.

to be fair to duff, he seems more a modest, reserved character than many of the mercs in today's game so i doubt money was the ONLY thing in his mind when he moved to chelsea. that said, i'd like him to move from there also. there was that bizarre sight of him watching ricardo carvalho romp up his wing and hammer one home against man. united - sort've symbolic of what he's become at chelsea, a bit of a lonely passenger.

Duff to spurs ??? thats all he's fit for IMHO. Chelsea ruined him. Turned him into a full back.

Ye not fit for a team who can finish high up in the Premiership.

He is a class act and needs to be playing for a team that will allow him to express himself down the left. Would be an excellent move for Duff and Spurs.

I'd like to see Harte and Duff both go to Spurs. They'd have a great attack down the left flank.

Pretty sure that anything in the Lahn Evenin Stahn is made up. Anyways it would be a bad move for the Duffa especially seeing what 3 point lane has done for Andy Reid's waistline.

I'm sure Damien wants to stay in the nice part of London and win more medals.

Short memory. You don't just lose your ability in 1 season. Duff is still as good as he ever was.

He's been poor now by his standards for a season and a half. Its not inconceivable that a players lack o confidence will harm his form on a long term basis. That remark about him being turned inhto a full back last season at chelsea is spot on.

Of course it would mean the end of cornish pastie boy at spurs probably but a move for him would be good as well.

Also how sh it is davids by the way? up there with cisse, traore and mills for most atrociously over rated prem player. ever. had to get that one off my chest.

You have to be actually rated first to be over rated....you won't find many Liverpool fans that will argue that Traore is good enough.

It's just the Chelsea formation and how Mourinho wants him to play. I thought he'd shaken off any of those habits when he pulled on the green jersey this year.

I thought it was the other way around - it's commonly thought he has two years left, but he actually only has one. We'll see!

Would prefer if he went abroad, but Spurs would definitely be a natural fit for his abilities. Purely selfishly, I wish Spurs would stop buying Irish players, I want to have as few reasons as possible to like them .

From a journalistic perspective, my guess is that the Standard sells about 10,000 extra copies in North London on the back of this type of story.
