Well done young O'Malley......Great to see an International match being played up Erris way....how did Mr Sweeney pull that one?

I hope the above is a joke

Disappointing but if we're honest, 6 weeks ago we'd have taken a point here and in Ballina. Great result on paper

The game was high on intensity but low on quality. Celtic deserved three points from it and the game should have been out of sight. The refereeing got noticed on the papers today, and I thought that it wasn't one of his better games. Best crowd in a long time. Still Celtic's league to lose though.

Quality wasn't great surely but in all fairness it is a very tight pitch, you don't really expect to see flowing football on it. The crowd was very encouraging, the locals came out in force and there was a strong celtic following too. I genuinely think the referee wasn't too bad, bar the needless sending off of westports manager and the inexplicable 6 or 7 minutes added time, I though he had control of the game and things never spilled over.

Celtic now must not lose away to claremorris, a draw would be enough I think, whereas a Claremorris win would really throw the cat amongst the pidgeons and would let westport back into the hunt with them still having to play claremorris.

A point in Claremorris would be good for Celtc. As said above, it's Celtic's league to lose.

As a history nut, I'm going to echo this with a different edge!

The centenary of FOOTBALL in Westport rather than United But hope the celebrations are great and a success. Westport has been a great contributor to Junior football in the west of Ireland, and Ireland as a whole.

    GOod luck to all

They have had trials so far. Probably may sign. Sligo Rovers have expressed an interest also.

Great night last night with the Centenary Mass celebrated in true Covey fashion by Fr. Ger Burns in fornt of a great crowd and the book launch was packed out. The book is at great value at €20 and after going through it, it is certainly a must buy book with 396 pages and over 800 photos and compelling reading in it. It is one of the great local books that anybody with Westport connections would be proud to have on their bookshelf and thanks to everybody that contributed to the success of the book.

Just for the record and no malice intended but can you confirm when actually was the Westport Utd name first used and were they on the go when Westport Town were playing.

Unfortunately, it was an early exit from the FAI Junior Cup following a disappointing display against Straide and Foxford United on Sunday. Hopefully the lads will refocus for the match against Corrib Rangers in the Connacht Cup and produce a more energised performance.

A bit like Leeds City and Leeds United, isn't it? Same club, different names.

Just wondering were they two different clubs. Point taken.

Great weekend for the underage with the U.12s beating Salthill Devon 3-1 and the U.14s defeating Galway Hibs 1-0 to reach their Connacht Cup finals. The U.18s hammered Ballisodare United 6-1 to reach the Connacht Shield final. Along with the galacticos reaching the Connacht Cup final, the club has a total of four representative sides in Connacht finals, a club record for one season.

While the underage representatives were runners up in the Connacht finals, the Galacticos did the business in Athenry. Sorry for being two months behind the times but I have to say that it was a great win to end the 25 year famine, the penalties were tense and dramatic. Gareth Cunningham's man of the match award was well earned by saving the two penalties, the home coming was fantastic and I have to say that calling out to Christy Moran gave it a very personal touch. Well done to Athenry for giving us a great game of it. Looking ahead, things are being put into motion for the new development down at Westport House. There is a launch of the project in the Castlecourt Hotel on Friday 13th July at 8:00 and there will be a 3D presentation of the project being shown to the public on the night.
