What I have seen there is one or two nice players coming up but not enough to compete with what Celtic are producing at the same time (better U-14 team). But Youths are doing the right things and I hope they will get a another group of quality players that their efforts deserve. But dont see it at the moment. Have a decent U-12 team at the moment but well behind Celtic at present.
Dont always say what you know, but always know what you say.
very true on the development of grounds its very exciting.however unless the youth set up changes we will never have players going up to junior team.im sorry for harping on all the time but not one under age team is being coached properly.three or four coaches have qualifications thats it, too many daddys coaching their kids.if you want your son too swim you dont send him to a golf coach.
The otherside of that coin is that not every coach with Kickstarts etc can coach at underage either. It takes more than a folder gained over a weekend to be able to do it successfully.
While not knowing about the Westport situation, I fully agree that coaches only interested in coaching their kids' teams should be strongly discouraged. It helps no one from my experience.
what does mossey lally know? you probabley never kicked a ball in your life either. if your going to quote someone use someone that knows what their talking about!
If you think that Mossy Lally is a buffoon, that is your opinion, if others think that Mossy Lally has a broad knowledge of the game, that is the opinions of others. It doesn't matter what he knows or what he doesn't know; at least he loves the game and is passionate about the game.
Attack the post, not the poster. Whether someone played football or not is not relavent to Mossy's article.
What Mossy wrote on the Mayo News was noted, not quoted. The only reason that this piece was lifted was because of a discussion about parents managing their kids. The author is not the key relavence here, it is the fact that he covered a topic that has been discussed not only on foot.ie, but on the streets of Westport.

i stand over my post, my points were made properly and i have no intention of ('kicking'?)anybody else around here. By the way TB from reading other forums ye're no angel yourself when it comes to trolling sweeping insults which the 12th man has been very slow to issue you with a caution.
It is a trend for parents to specifically get involved with teams that have their children playing. This is a common situation in many clubs.
I suppose the problem is one of recruitment, and getting others to get involved who have something to offer and dont have kids or at least ones which are involved with the specific team they are looking after. Parents of players, I believe, in most cases are the only ones willing to do the job.
I thinks there are plenty of people out there which can help but need to be approached, in what is a vital area.

You dont have to play competitively to know the game, sometimes its an advantage. Many great managers had limited involvement with the game on a playing level, Mourihno, Wenger, Eriksson, to name a few.
ML has a great knowledge of the game and has a love for it, anyone who reads his articles can see this, and through his work at his club, he has been successful.
He has, and is, doing a great service to Mayo soccer.

wenger, mourihno and eriksson all played pro football!
can you not read?-all three played pro football. you and mossy played zero football. (can't believe i'm even discussing this.)bye.
I can read, they played very limited football, there are plenty of great players who did not have success at management( ie Phil Neal, Lothar Mattaeus, Bobby Charlton).
The fact remains Mossy has been successful at his club with a low population base, and is a great servant to the game, and alot more of us think the world of him, than are critical.
Bye, good riddance...
Dont always say what you know, but always know what you say.
the facts are manulla have probably the largest population base to pick from with players from manulla, belcarra, balla, castlebar, ballyglass, mayo abbey, ballyvary, bohola, knock, achill, claremorris,br eaffy and ballyheane playing for them under his management. he underachieved with those players and most of them will tell you that he was not a good manager. nice lad yes- good manager no!
Not forgetting Roy Hodgson, who played non league football and went onto guide Switzerland to their first World Cup finals in 28 years, managed Inter Milan and nearly got Finland into Euro 2008. As for managers involved in football that never kicked a ball in their lives? There are lots of them. Clubs are crying out for volunteers and there are coaching courses on a regular basis. The Kick Start One course encourages parents and teachers that never played football, but give a hand, to do these courses and get more proactively involved in the game.
