Well done to the C team on winning their division. B team are looking good too!!
Looking at the results of the Junior team since the 19th July, they have lost three league games and drawn one plus the cup defeat against Moyvilla. They have beaten Manulla, Iorras, S&F United and Fahy Rovers. The big question that has to be asked is, is eight years together as the first team that had little or no off-season time due to the extended nature of the football that they have been playing and so few players coming through over that length of time catching up on them? Are the players suffering form the dreaded burnout? If I include the results up to the 19th July which were all wins and only one defeat, the performances to date were certainly not as bright as they were back in 2004-2005 season. They look like a side that is jaded and playing too much football with too little recovery time. No one can blame the players for it, they gave the supporters many a great day and they are not paid to play football. The management cannot be blamed either, as they put in lots of hours into these guys who sweated blood and tears for the cause, no more than the players. Without being negative, do you guys think that an early exit from the cup competitions might be a benefit to the players so they can recharge their batteries and regain their enthusiasm again?
If anything that is really disappointing this year and that is the dwindling attendance at our games. For the Kilmore game recently, I was gambling on a supporter to pick me up to go down to the game. I didn't travel because no one passed by. Is Westport going to resort back to the barstool sniping against the players that we saw in the past? I hope not.
The good news is that we will see good players looking to break through in good numbers in approx three to four years.

Lads,
Who have Westport drawn in the Fai Junior Cup?
Does your Summer Soccer Season suit your club or would you prefer the old season?
Alright lads, just came across your thread, i'm from Dillons Cross, how are things looking for ye this year? How do ye think ye'll do in the FAI cup? I always look out to see how yere doin,I was impressed with ye as a club and the passion that was shown from your youngest supporter to your Captain that game ye played against us. Played on any pitches worse than ours recently?
Who's takin the cones??????
Things are not too bad, we are still in the chase for the title, our results have been inconsistent, we dropped points that we shouldnt have this season.
The season is starting to drag on which I think will affect the league leaders Ballina, they are not used to looking over their shoulders at the top of the table, I am sure they would like to get the games played and have the season finished, Westport are lying in wait to pounce, with FAI Junior Cup and Connacht games starting there is more scope for injuries, anything could happen at this stage.
The FAI Junior Cup will be taken game by game by the lads, it is a cup competition and anything can happen.
Thanks for the compliment on our support, football is a religion in Westport, and the teams always get massive support from the fans, it is not unusual to bring 150 supporters to an away game.
As for pitches, no offence but yours will take some beating!
Best of luck this year in the competition!![]()
Congrats to Ballina Town on a deserved league win from all of us here at Westport United. The season here in Westport cannot be seen as total failure, despite some of the narrow minded talk I've been listening to, with one old individual being dismissive about the success of the B team because the A team relinquished their league title to Ballina Town. The B and C teams won their leagues and it is a great achievement for both sides and it gives the genuine supporters of Westport United something to shout about.
Never play leapfrog with a unicorn!!
Westport United made their earliest exit from the FAI Junior Cup in 9 years as they made an early exit against Manulla on a 4-2 scoreline.![]()

Jesus wept.... What's happening to ye??? I was amazed to hear that key team members were out the night before the Erris game last week considering it could have won you ye the league (well, under the very unlikely circumstances of Fahy beating Ballina, but still...) Is the desire gone? What's the story with management for next year, has that been sorted yet?
It is basically a case of player burnout, the team have been playing all year round without a break for the last 7 years, that is the price of being successful. The lads need 6 months off playing no football whatsoever (Mayo included) to recharge the batteries. They need a complete break.
