How should I take it then? It's Kilkenny's problem this week, not ours. It's rare two weeks running that UCD's away support will make up about 10% of the crowd.
Kilkenny down to 10 men by the way.
just a comment on how embrassing it must be! Don't take it to heart.Originally Posted by Poor Student

and what type of crowd will you pull against Derry?Originally Posted by Poor Student

do you not think that's shocking for a televised game in the top division of this country?Originally Posted by Poor Student
Not at all. It being live on TV won't change the fact that that is our average attendance. Isolated, our attendances look poor. However if you consider that in any league there are well supported large teams and poorly supported small teams then it is hardly that shocking. In England the highest average attendance was Man U with about 69,000 whereas Portsmouth only had an average of about 20,000 with the lowest. In Scotland the highest was Celtic with 58,000, the lowest Livingston with 5,000. In the Bundesliga Dortmund with 72,000 and Mainz 20,000. Serie A AC Milan with 57,000 whereas Empoli only had an average of about 7,000. The problem is not UCD having crap crowds as the lowest attended club compared to the highest attended club is always significantly smaller, it's the fact that crowds are crap right across the board. TV can't avoid this harsh reality. Even crowds at the big games don't look so great.
I'll put it into perspective for you.Originally Posted by Poor Student

In the context of this league and its average attendances and the fact that we are the second smallest supported club in the division, it isn't actually. As I've pointed out, it's not unusual for the smallest club's average to be from 30% to as low as 10% of the biggest club's average attendances. Our attendances across the board in this league just happen to be crap. You couldn't even fill the Jody Stand for the game against us on television last year, that didn't look very good.Originally Posted by BohsFans
Btw, that's Kilkenny 0 - 2 UCD, final score. UCD players just walked straight onto the bus in their kit. No showers down there?![]()
It's not that far off what Waterford and Longford are pulling in, so it's not exactly shocking in that perspective. We didn't ask to be on telly, so to be frank, I'm not worried whether it's a shocking crowd for a televised game, etc. (Though Longford's two previous live games had about the same). So long as our home support is improving - which it is - I'm happy enough.Originally Posted by BohsFans
(For what it's worth, I counted 130 at the game. There were 12 of us on the bus and about 30 from UCD all told, between other fans, family, etc. Though I don't see you commenting on Kilkenny)
Correction; a few of them shook my hand first.Originally Posted by Poor Student
That money grabber Liam Kearney spat on a Bangor player tonight but it was missed by the referee. From what I heard Bangor had Shels rattled when they got back to 2-1.
Whatever about showers, they could still have changed their clothes!Originally Posted by Poor Student
And we still out-sung them.Originally Posted by Poor Student

and just moments beofre that Kearney kicked out at him as well. When it was 2-1 Shels were looking nervy alright. From the kick off for our conceded goal the ball was knocked back to Rogers (
I think) who then hit back to Delaney and was nearly intercepted by a Bangor player. About 5 minutes later, down the left wing there was a great build up by Bangor, player went through unchallenged - shot from about 20 yards Delaney well beaten, hits the post. Thank God we wrapped it up because this was nearly going to a replay.
AFAIK, Bangor are playing Malahide during the week for a winners take all for the league. So, if Malahide play as well as Bangor did we could a shock today out in Gannon Park![]()
