20/1- I'll take those odds. Worth betting a tenner I think.

Based on recent Cup form I`d be backing Derry & Longford & laying Shels to all comers.

I can`t understand Shels being favourites over Derry unless there is a fair bit of money on them already.

100% agree with you. Shels are one to lay.

PP online odds will be exact same as in PP shop (same with ladbrokes, William Hills, Boyles etc) but online you can shop around and might find value in other bookies, or more likely on Betfair

No AFAIK. Most accept laser if you don't have a "proper" credit card"

    Cheers. Just one more question!

Gary O'neill is 9/2 to score 2 or more goals tonight. Shels are 7/1 to win 3-0. Would that be considered an accumalator or would the odds be 31.5/1?

ahhh, the murky world of related bets.

You couldn't place this bet because you are (in part) betting on the same outcome twice. If O'Neill scores two or more goals, then Shels already have at least two goals and so are no longer a 7/1 chance to win 3-0.

If you do manage to get this bet on somewhere it will most likely be voided when the bookmaker spots what has happened.

Special prices are available for a 'scorecast' however. This bet allows you do a double on a named player to score the first goal and the correct score of the game. But the returned price is not calculated as a straight forward double, a 'reduction factor' is applied to account for the related nature of the two outcomes.

    Clear as mud eh?

But think of it as placing a bet on a hedgehog getting from one side of the road to the other.

You can bet on the hedgehog to get all the way across.

And there may be another market that the hedgehog gets across in either 'under 60 secs' or 'over 60 secs'

You could not place a double here because the price for the hedgehog to cross the road in Under/Over 60 secs already takes in to account that the hedgehog HAS crossed the road.

Personally I reckon that our hedgehog friend in the example would be a worthwhile bet to outpace the lethargic Glen Crowe across the road at the moment

hahah, deadly. the majority of shop staff are on a different planet, most of them would put a shopping list through the till as long as it was written on a docket.

I once asked in a shop for odds on Real Madrid to win the Champs League and was responded to with "what sport is that?"

Well I lost that so but not too bad wasn't far off!

On the way to Derry last year we stopped off in Monaghan. Went into the local bookies:

"could I have the odds on the Shels V Derry game there please?!"

"Ermm..........sorry there doesn't appear to be any gaelic games this week"

    Who Cares?!

I wouldn't throw that docket away yet my friend.

    Technically you've backed a winner.

As your bet was not a legal wager (which you would have found out the hard way when you went to collect had it obliged), the staff would have been obliged to settle the bet like so:

They would split your stake in half and place it 50/50 on each of the outcomes which you had attempted to double.

Seeing as one of these outcomes obliged at 9/2 you are entitled to half your stake as a winner at those odds.

There's a possibility your betting slip has already been settled this way - if the settler is any good. Otherwise you might have a bit of discussion on your hands, but persevere - you are entitled to it.

    Go and collect your winnings
