    League Cup Results (Cork out)

    From aertel:

    WEDNESDAY MAY 10
    EIRCOM LEAGUE CUP SECOND ROUND
    Limerick FC 1-0 Kerry League
    Guerin 90

    Cork City 0-1 Cobh Ramblers
    Murphy s/o 90 Warren 8

Bit of a shock to see Cobh put Cork out. Unlucky for Kerry League.

I heard it was for a stamping incident - does mean he is out for the next league game

I would think he probably suspended. I would be surprised if he was not. No idea what happened & unlikely to see tv footage but its not as if Danny Murphy doesn't have form as a hot head. He got long stupid ban last season & lost his place in the team as punishment.

So in the space of a month he`s managed to be sent off in injury time for punching someone in the head and stamping?!

I`d say the Cockney Rebel has a few anger management issues. Obvious target for opposition teams to wind up.

Sure doesn't every team have them, on and off the pitch.

I thought it meant he would only miss your next league cup game ? Think thats what happened in our game against St. Pats...... but Cobh's web site say's he will miss the match Vs Shels

Corks' worst result in years i'd say. Only Cobh's 2nd win of the season and it's against the current league champions !

Im not too bothered by this defeat tbh.I know it was a derby game but with the size of our squad we could do with less games

In saying that we still put a strong enough side out to win the game so we should have won it.

Hardly our worst defeat in years. I'd say our home defeat to Pats in the league near the end of last season was a small bit worse.

Poor performance though, I'm told, though not a full strength team. We're just not firing on all cylinders this season.

Danny being sent off in the last minute again is just stupid.

Still, our FAI Youths Cup final win last weekend consoles me quite a lot

Nope - sending off in the League Cup means a one-match (or more) ban in the League Cup. Micko Donnell was sent off for us in the 2004 Q/F and served the ban in the First Round of 2005 - when he was at first-team training!

All the reports are stating that Danny Murphy is suspended for game against Shels on Monday.

Must have changed the rule after us taking the p!ss out of it so! Makes more sense in fairness.

On an aside - Cork had a bit of an aura last season as being very tough to beat, etc, which often gives teams a psychological advantage when they have that kind of aura. I wonder in the light of this result - and the fact that Cork have yet to score away from home - if that aura is ebbing a bit? Will teams now go into games against them more confident of being able to get a result?

If this league cup red card leads to a suspension in the league (presumably Cork's next game), does the reverse apply too? I.e. could a suspension from a red card in the league be served in the league cup?

Aye. Think it was before last season that it was changed so that bans apply for all domestic competitions.

The rule was changed last season.
If you are sent off in the FAI Cup you serve your suspension in the next FAI Cup game if your team is still in the competition If your team is knocked out of the competition your suspension is served in the next league game.

I presume it is the same for the league cup.

Not sure about this. Jimmy Fullam was sent off on Saturday and didn't play in the League Cup on Tuesday, but I think he was just rested/dropped. I think he is suspended for tomorrow's game versus Galway United.

An automatic suspension must be served in teh competion in which the card was received.

However, because Cork are out of the cup, Murphy must sit out the league game.

Are you sure? I would say Cork will finish third at best.

Another point....they do care about it which showed by fielding an almost full strength squad.

Flynny was playing to get a full-game under his belt, but other than that it was probably the best available.

However I dont think they are bothered about getting knocked out of the league cup.I know its an avenue to the Setanta cup but so are the FAI and league, both of which are far higher up the list of priorities...as i said in terms of our squad it could be a blessing in disguise
