    Franck Quedrue

    From: http://home.skysports.com/list.asp?h...nsiders+switch

Middlesbrough's Franck Queudrue has revealed that he is considering playing for England, after talking with new coach Steve McClaren.

The Boro boss, who takes charge at Soho Square in August, is a big fan of Queudrue - having brought him to England in 2001.

Queudrue was snapped up by McClaren on loan after a brief trial, and he soon made his move permanent.

The French full back is now one of the most popular players at The Riverside and is regarded as one of the best left backs in The Premiership.

France have so far, to the player's annoyance, ignored his efforts in England and now he is considering switching his allegiance.

"I will surprise you, I am in England for five years now and I have never had any French team call," he revealed.

"I am 'eligible' to play for the England national team. McClaren has already talked to me about his project, but I need to think about it."

Queudrue admits a move back to France remains an option and that could then bolster his Les Bleus ambitions - should he decide against playing for England.

"In a way I could be lucky to play for a great team, but I would feel a little ashamed as France remains my country," he told But!

"But I know here people respect me a lot. In France, people almost don't know me.

"I hope it would change above all if I come back to Ligue 1 soon."

That's not serious ! He should make it clear. Playing for England is obviously not his first choice (he would be ashamed). It sounds like rather a change solution. Playing for a country is more important than that.
This story is similar to Valérien Ismäel declaring his interest for Germany after being left out by Domenech.

Quedrue's hopes of an Irish cap are dashed
    Tuesday, 05 April 2005 1:28

Franck Quedrue's dream of playing at Lansdowne Road is over

Franck Quedrue's hopes of playing for the Republic of Ireland team have been dashed after it was revealed that he had made a mistake over his Irish ancestry.

The French born Middlesbrough defender had last week suprisingly claimed that he was willing to play for Ireland despite having already won a cap with the French 'B' team.

Quedrue believed that he would qualify for Ireland through an Irish grandfather, however, when it was revealed that it was actually his great-grandfather that hailed from Ireland, his hopes faded.

A disappointed Queudrue said: "Unfortunately I am one generation out. I am very proud of my Irish ancestry, but it's my great grandfather who was from Ireland and that's not enough for me to play."

"When I was asked if I would like to play for Ireland, I said it would be an honour for me to wear the Irish shirt and a privilege to play alongside the likes of Roy Keane and Robbie Keane."

"Given the chance to play for Ireland I would have walked there. But it's not possible," he added.

The player's advisor Garry Thornton revealed that there had been talks with the FAI and claimed that Queudrue has always been proud to have Irish roots. "France have not shown much interest in calling him up, but he has always been aware of his Irish family history," he said.

"We did have some contact with the FAI, but nothing came of it. Unfortunately he won't get the chance to play for Ireland. The rules are there," Thornton added.

    -----------------------

So it's fair enough that he chases international representation elsewhere.

The only left back I've seen play who wasn't fit to clean Harte's boots was Harte.
You can't spell failure without FAI

A mate of mine sent me a link to the official Boro website when I was still in college that Franck was looking to declare for Ireland but had been turned down. At the tim he was putting forward his case based on the fact that his great-great-grandfather was from Cork! That was 4 years ago and the fact that it's still getting discussed is mind blowing! Mind you, I say the same thing about Saipan...
