tis a a bit of a disgrace alright...there really shouldnt be this kind of tension and this rivalry....is it a sponsorship thing because the club have there own player of the month sponsored by some company?

and i can confirm the two young fans were heartbroken

"Sligo Rovers astonishing reasoning for refusing permission to supporters of the club is totally unfounded and based around completely incorrect facts. The trust were shocked by this decision, especially as this ran so successfully last season."

I am also shocked and surprised to hear this decision. I would love to hear their reason for it. Also what "facts" are completely incorrect?

well in all fairness i think you have to look at it from the club's point of view too.its very easy to say oh the poor trust, what are the club playing at. but to be fair the club run a similar award and present it at games too so maybe they feel it takes away from the value of winning their award and getting presented with it in front of the crowd if there is somebody else doing exactly the same thing.

Maybe it's because the Trust aren't officially associated with the club?

Club should also realise all the good that the Trust do for the club and to hep raise the profile of the club.

That's very easy to answer-Racenights,Posters About the game,Buses,Website,Players of the Month,Calendar,Articles in Newspapers,Trust Meetings,Giving Money to the Club,Messages on this Forumn,Soccer Competition,Fanzine etc

Anything that gets people talking about Sligo Rovers, in my opinion helps raise the Club's Profile.

There will always be resistance from EL clubs to the concept of supporters having a say in the running of their own clubs as opposed to the "hand over the cheque and disappear" style behaviour that was expected of supporters clubs in the past.

Its disappointing, but not surprising, that any club would choose to alienate its supporters in the fashion described above. No doubt Sligo Rovers FC would be happy to accept a cheque on the pitch from the Bit O' Red Supporters Trust.

The lads at your Trust are doing a great job. At a recent meeting of Irish STs in Dalymount Pk, BORST was unanimously chosen as the template for all other trusts in Ireland to follow.

    Keep up the good work,

    PD.

IMO the majority of the current committee are a bunch of bigoted, narrow-minded relics, we have seen player & manager come & go yet this core group remains the same, a clannish cluster whom over the years bred an US & THEM ethos in the club, they conveniently manoeuvre from board to committee and back again ensuring that they are never divided. This type of petty politics will (has) drive Players, Supporters (why are the majority not returning????) and management away.
I think its about time they stood down and let the Dynamics of youth and open-minded Professionalism take over, Fresh blood is needed to take OUR beloved Sligo Rovers to the next level.
To each and everyone of them A Big thank you for taking potentially one of the countries biggest clubs Yo-Yoing between divisions over the years, I am sure in you own minds eye you’ve done a great job & in fairness you’ve kept the club going, Well Done!
We are a TOP FLIGHT CLUB now & need to be ran as such, these days Football is a business and therefore should be ran like one, by Business men & men who mean business.
Petty Politicking with the Clubs Largest supporters club over a Players incentive accolade is hardly the antics of a hugely ambitious Committee.

I think it's a disgrace that there has been an objection to this.
Fair enough, the Trust are seperate to the FC, but they still make a
financial contriibution to the Club and also promote the Club off the
    pitch.

As someone eaid in an earlier reply, the MC seem to have no problem
accepting the Trusts money but do object to them giving an award at
    a match.

As with the old Supporters Club, when they used the SRFC crest some
of the MC came looking for money for allowing them to use it.
Just because money didnt go directly intotheir hand they didnt realise
the the SC we're already sponsoring the players buses to games.

Patrick I'm not sure how Galway United are ran so I can't comment about your club. But Sligo Rovers is a Co-Op and which means it is ran by the supporters. If some one wants to join the board all they have to do is buy a share and get elected at the AGM. If a person is seen to giving their time to the club i.e. helping out on match days and other work behind the scene they will get elected on to the committee.

I paid the first two installments for my share when I was 15 and 16 - £50 each time when it was £500 - dont even know how much a share is now - they would probably deny that I did if I ever went down there to claim it.

Why dont the trust flex some muscle and threthen to withhold money until there is more cooperation from the MC!

does anybody else think we should wait until we hear what the club have to say.neither the trust or the club have given us a reason yet for what happened. everybody is just jumping to conclusions. maybe if one or both parties would say something on the matter it might clear things up.

Whats the problem with two awards, would the club object if the media presented a player of the month / year award etc?? I doubt it.. seems very petty and bad for the clubs image

This is disgraceful. Whatever the club and the Trust have going on between them should stay between them(really it should be sorted out but hey that's their problem). The fact that the club stopped the Trust presenting an award is extremely petty and I feel sorry for the two young supporters that were lined up as I'm sure they were looking forward to meeting Foyzer.

I think it's time the Trust came on here and told us about what's going on because none of us can fairly comment until we're told why so Gary/Alan what's happening?.
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.
