Oh the sarcasm.I can smell it from here. Then again sor your a Cross Celtic man and so McKeon's field is probably a 'beautiful field' by that standard . Now thats a retort with sarcasm. Nah sure we all have to start out somewhere. Just a bit narrow that field in Cong. Hope the rest of the season goes well for youse. The facilities currently are excellent and the Mayo team use them for training. Its down to alot of hard work by a lot of people locally and its paying off.

    Canadian Blue Bombers

Hamish, a bit of further information for you. Their is a link between our club and the Canadian Blue Bombers. I've suggested a pre season friendly....over there!!!!

Not sure if many games went ahead this weekend but in Division One and two the games took place in Ballyvary on Sunday for Blue Bombers 'B' and Blue Bombers 'A'. The pitch took an awful lot of water at training on friday night and only for a little respite on Saturday the games wouldn't have gone ahead. The weather on Sunday however was attrocious.

In the first game in Division 2 BBB 'B's took on Snugboro United 'B' in a top of the table clash and while there was an awful lot of surface water the game went ahead and was very enjoyable. Snugboro took the lead in the first half though the Blue Bombers played good flowing football and managed to pin Snugboro to their half for the entire second half. It was only a matter of time before we scored and did so with 20 mins to go with a low shot that skidded along the surface to the net. The game could have been sealed for the home side but in the conditions both sides would be satisfied with a point and both maintain their good form.

That game was followed by the Blue Bombers 'A's against table toppers Charlestown Athletic in Division One. The conditions seemed to deteriorate further and it looked more like a game of water polo as the rain and cold drove into the dugouts. Charlestown availed of the conditions to open the scoring with a screaming effort from 35 to 40 yards before a skid in front of the keeper forced the ball to loop over the keeper. Blue Bombers responded well and equalised within minutes and a minute later went 2-1 up with a well headed goal. Charlestown pressed and got an equaliser and followed up a minute later with a second to take them into the lead. Their tactics from there on in was to boot the ball into the nearest field and since the conditions were so bad retrieval wasn't that easy. The game was held up for periods as no ball (they generally followed the first ball into the next field with the second and thus disrupt the game) was available and the time ticked away. The weather conditions were so poor that on one occasion our full back slid for the ball and continued his slide off the pitch taking out his oblivious manager. Blue Bombers scored a deserved equaliser and the game finished 3-3. A thoroughly entertaining game given the weather conditions.
