Gutted about Deco missing the game. Oh well, still enough quality to give em problems.
So ITV was correct thenOriginally Posted by NeilMcD

Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

They are tabloid TV at its worst the last night while the adds were on RTE I switched on Yorath Venables and Guillit and they were rubbish. Guillit was so bias towards Holland it made Ian Wright look balanced. A joke channel in my view.

I haven't seen anything to suggest they are capable of raising their game, bar dropping Lampard and Beckham that is.Originally Posted by NeilMcD
to play 5 in MF so Sven doesn't need to drop Lampard or Beckham shows how gutless the Swede really is.
Noticeable that, even when playing 9 v 10, Portugal were able to find gaps in the Dutch defence and stretch them almost at will; they came the closest to scoring again as well. The loss of Costinha, Deco and possibly Ronaldo is big, but I still think they'll have enough for a very pedestrian England. Ricardo'd be my only worry - he was appalling last night!
Anyway, if England do win, they don't have a snowball's chance in hell against either Germany or Argentina in the semis.
Don't write them off. They were poor in Italia 90 if memory serves me correctly and they went out on penos in the semi-finals to Germany. I can't remember the last time I saw a free flowing England (1-5 in Germany perhaps) but they're tough to play against and grind out wins.
However, I cannot visualise Peter Crouch holding up the World Cup. Amusing set of photos of him going the e-mail rounds![]()

Peter Crouch a cross between Ryan Tubridy and a ladder, classic stuff from Apres Match.

As much as it pains me to say it England are in with a good chance of winning the tournament. They know Portugal well who are without Deco and possibly Ronaldo. Semi final opponents are likely to be Brazil who again they know well from WC2002. England have to peak sometime, better to play well against weaker opposition and get away with it and start performing later.
Talk of peaking at the right time is all well and good, but where is the evidence that England can play any better than this? Seems to me this is their peak, and it's just not that good.
It would be more correct to say they have hit a trough at the wrong time![]()
