    Germany

Thats right if the Germans draw with Ecuador the South Americans win the group on goal difference. And Ecuador looked fairly lively today, albeit against Costa Rica, but a draw against Germany is not unrealistic.

They came very close to loosing the game. T&T seemed to be the only side making any sort of chances. The english were very lucky to get the 3pts. To be honest I think they would have been lucky with 0-0, T&T deserved to win 1-0.
The english actually believe they have a chance of winning the World Cup.
They have some great players but they don't seem to be able to play together.

Football definitely won't be going home on the evidence we've seen so far.

Terry was solid, Gerrard invisible again, even though, he scored. England missed a lot of chances, with T&T coming close maybe three times. Shocking display from the English again. Not looking too hot for the 2nd round.

    The over-hyped Premiership.

    Question

How many English players played for Liverpool and Arsenal in the last two CL Finals. There's your answer.

Hence Sven brings a player who hasnt played in Arsenals reserves and a clearly unfit Owen. If you were Defoe, Bent, Johnson or any other English striker - how would you feel right now.

Look at the talent on the bench of Brasil, Italy, Argentina and Spain. Then look at England.

Paraguay, Sweden, Trinidad and England is without doubt the worst group thats ever been assembled at any World Cup EVER.

    Come on Ecuador.

Very interesting betting on Betfair for the England v Sweden game as the draw is the fav.Could be interesting as they'll both know what they have to do to get ther opponent they "fancy" in the next round. It could be that both Teams will not want to win this game

Dreadful as usual and I cannot wait till they meet a big side who gives em a hammering. What the pundits and press don't realise is that even with a fit Rooney the ING GER LAND got beat by Northern Ireland!!!

Owen is not fit, match sharp and doesn't look interested. Gerrard and Lampard were w**k as usual, Crouch is Crouch. I was pleading for Sven to keep him on, he did...... but Rodney Trotter somehow managed to try and head the ball and it went it.

Ericcson has to be the one to blame. Such a talented group of players struggling to beat Paraguay and Trinidad & Tobago is unvelievable. His continues to get his tactics wrong. The midfield has no real shape with Gerrard and Lampard playing together in CM. It IS possible for both to play together but Ericcson has not found the way to do that. Wenger found a way for Vieira and Petit to play together at Arsenal, so it's proven that similar minded players can play alongside each other.

Owen is not fit enough to be playing. He is a confidence player and when he's in a bad run of form, he stays in it. He is one of the best goalscorers in the world but he just isn't fit.

Are England the only team in the world cup that play 5 attacking players (Crouch, Owen, Beckham, Cole, Lampard)?

If you look at some of the teams in this world cup and the players they have playing as defensive midfielders:

    Brazil: Ze Roberto and Emerson
    Argentina: Cambiasso and Mascherano
    Holland: Cocu and van Bommel
    Spain: Xavi and Alonso
    Italy: Gattuso/De Rossi, Pirlo/Perotta
    France: Makelele and Vieira
    ...
    England: Gerrard

Take Ze Roberto out of the Brazil team and replace him with Juninho or take Cambiasso out of the Argentina team and replace him with Aimar. Then you'd have a team as unbalanced as England's. Sven really is clueless.

Awful display by England. Long aimless balls going straight into touch or over the goal line all day.

They're about the only team so far who can't move the ball around at any kind of tempo.

That said, bringing Lennon on was a good move as it injected some movement and stretched T&T a bit.

But, due largely to my paranoia, I still think that this feels a bit like Rugby WC 2003. England overcame poor performances & some scares (Wales, W. Samoa) and sheer determination & an expert ball striker / set piece deliverer won the tournament.

England will be hard to score against & I'd always bet on them to get a goal.

Several "stars" are just not performing at all: Ashley Cole, Robinson, Owen, Lampard.

And although a 0-0 would have had great comedy value, a draw would have almost guaranteed a last 16 place yesterday anyway.

Going to England vs Sweden on Tuesday.

Give me joy in my heart Henrik Larsson...

As I said in the other thread, England play with 5 attacking players ahead of Gerrard. This just doesn't work.

If England play like that Ecuador will beat them in second round, the preformance of Lampard and Gerrard in midfield was eclipsed by the industrious Birchill and Clever Yorke..Long punts up to crouch suggest a coach who is devoid of tactical knowledge and who doesn't give a toss!

if Ecuador hold Germany then it would be better for us all if England draw rather than lose. That way they have to meet the Germans!!! Haha. Long ball went out of fsshion when Megson left Nottingham Forest, for a team full of so called 'big game players' they are a disgrace. Holland, Argentina, Italy etc can all zip the ball around and play some neat attacking football.

I know it was a bad performance......but that just made the celebrations so much better........had an amazing time about 5 of us drapped in England flags singing down the street with someone on my shoulders and everyone beeping their horn at us......brilliant
