Bookie Wants Probe Into 'Odd' Match Bets

    From Tuesday's Star.

Eastwood's bookmakers want the PSNI and the IFA to come together for a full investigation due to some strange patterns of betting by certain punters. The game was between Glenavon and Armagh City which Glenavon won 4-0 (The first time they beat Armagh City in several meetings this season and last). Paddy Power has also confirmed it stopped taking bets on the game after a number of new accounts were opened with large amounts of cash wagered on Glenavon winning. Eastwood's claimed it received "irregular" requests from within both the republic and England for a single match bet, even though the company has not taken single bets on Irish League football for many years.

Interesting. Although the credibility of some of the large bookies took a bit of a hit recently after the recent furore over one of the fights inthe Irish Amateur boxing championships.

They made the same kind of comments re "unusual betting patterns" and then when asked to provide information, couldn't back up the accusations.

Will be interesting to see if anything happens here.

Were Armagh injury ravaged or something ? Was their usual keeper out ?

Was there any way that someone with a bit of open-knowledge on the game could have predicted how it would go ? Football often throws-up unusual results.

It's a big accusation for the bookies to make. They're suggesting that the game may have been fixed.

That was Boyles panicking and looking for media coverage.

Appearantly there were questions raised about the Dungannon match last weekend as well.
It'll be interesting to see if anything comes of it.

Steve, Armagh rested a few players, but why not they were safe and wanted to see what quality they have in their reserves. this is harsh on releagion threatened teams, but not illegal.
Armagh's keeper was actually man of the match for the amount of saves he made.
also I cant think of many bookies in NI that take individual bets on IL, Toals for example will only take a min of 3 IL teams in single bet to prevent potential irregular betting, however i know very little about the online shops and their policy.
The only potential problem would be if someone from within ACFC knew about the young team ACFC were putting out and said to someone and so on.

Paddy Power Bookmakers, who took single bets on the match, got stung by this too.

Paddy Power himself came onto local radio to say that their investigations showed no irregularities.

He put his hands up and stated that they priced up Glenavon wrongly (not realising that Armagh had nothing to play for, in stark contrast to Glenavon) and got hit by shrewd punters.
The Englishmen came over in the year 2005
But little did they know that we'd planned a wee surprise
Sir David scored the winner, and Windsor Park went wild
And this is what we sang...

Quite the opposite, I got a call last Friday telling me this was going to happen. Paddy Powers sussed it really early and closed the book.

A well known English bookies got badly stung though.
