REad that alright.
Didn't their original bassist (The Bass Thing) die too, or am I wrong?
This actually happened three weeks ago ...I only found out this morning.
The guy was a superb drummer with a superb band. Sad the way it all ended and especially sad to see two kids who I'm guessing are in their early to mid teens now left without a dad.
R.I.P.
From NME:
Wonder Stuff star killed
Martin Gilks dies aged 41
Former Wonder Stuff drummer Martin Gilks has died in London following a motorcycle accident aged 41.
Gilks died at St George's Hospital in London on Monday (April 3). He had suffered internal injuries following an accident the day before.
His band enjoyed massive success in the late '80s and early '90s, scoring 14 top 40 hits before splitting in 1994. They had a Number One hit in 1991 with their cover of Tommy Roe's 'Dizzy'. Other big singles for them included 'The Size Of A Cow', 'Welcome To The Cheap Seats' and 'Don't Let Me Down, Gently'.
A statement from the band reads: "Yesterday Martin Gilks died in a motorcycle accident in London. It is a tragic loss to all his family & friends. Martin will be sadly missed & fondly remembered."
An online book of condolence can be viewed at

That "statement from the band" is the statement in it's entirety and the only reference to the guy on their official site thewonderstuff.co.uk
At the same time I dunno what I exactly expect from them. If they'd a big fawning tribute they'd be accused of being two-faced.
" I wish to God that someone would be able to block out the voices in my head for five minutes, the voices that scream, over and over again: "Why do they come to me to die?"

Motorcycles should be banned!
Eddie Cochran died on one if I am not mistaken too!
Being in The Wonder Stuff's rhythm section seems to be bloody dangerous![]()

Shameful waste of life.
Just on Gilksy -some drummers play heavy, some play light, some are fast, some are funky, some are manic ....Gilks could do the lot in one song. Great, great drummer.

Wow...gutted....loved the stuffies....came over all dizzy and collapsed with delayed concusion during their rendition of dizzy at Feile 91.
RIP Martin.
****ing great band. I grew up with the music of Wonder Stuff and met them plenty enough times when I moved to Birmingham. I have a few stories to tell concerning meself and some friends and them and their friends, but they're not for repeating on a public message board...Originally Posted by Lionel Ritchie
