have been in croke park plenty of times and given the right match the atmosphere in the stands can be brilliant. Last year I was in the canal end for dublin v tyrone replay and during the 15 mins or so Dublin were coming back into the game in 2nd half the noise was deafening.

singing section for the whole of the canal end is a super idea

As far as i'm aware they're never going to develop hill 16 because:
1. Historical.
2. The railway track would have to be moved.

The GAA have decided to keep the Hill as a terrace as is their right and personally I think they are right. Why should they make the ground all seater when plenty of people prefer to stand. Personally I stand at all internationals until i get fed up with someone behind saying sit down. (That said at away games they can p*** off - i'm standing and singing or shouting)

As for covering the Hill the cost is prohibitive and given the majority of GAA games are in the Summer they would be mad to do so and have to increase ticket prices to pay for whats not wanted by the GAA supporter who in fairness is their priority.

Wasn't it the plan to have all seater then the GAA just ran out of money, then they listened to the arguement to retain the terrace.

original plan was for all seater but fans wanted a terrace. Hill 16 cost something like �25m to build and can accommodate 11,000 fans. cost per fan = �2,272. seated areas costed �180m or �2,500 a seat (72,000 seats). Not much difference there. the terrace design allows for future installation of seats

There's never been any problem with the atmosphere on the Hill for the Dubs games so I don't think it' the roof or lack thereof which is the problem. IMO people sing freer on a terrace as they feel more anomyous.

The best thing about having the away fans on the hill is that they can push the pitch right up against the canal end to ensure that all of us home fans won't need binoculars.

Nothing against GAA, the fact is that we are paying premium prices circa 2m a game for 3/4 of the stadium as currently standing and bucket seats are banned.(maybe we get a discount if Hill 16 is unsuitable) I would like to see the GAA/GOVT finish off the ground with the proceeds and make it the national stadium. Some of my taxes went into the construction of Croke park and being from Sligo I don,t get much of a reason to go there very often, if it was completed it would be one of the best stadiums in the world.

1. Hill 16 will be used ( to house away support)

2. Its still Gaa's decision to do what they like with their stadium.
Your taxes don't count. Every sport gets taxpayers money. If you are going down that route, I presume you are all in favour of GAA to be played in new Tallaght Stadium??

The ground is completed. What's wrong with terracing?

Nothing, but I think the stadium looks silly at the moment it would easily be in the top 5 in the world if completed on all sides.

The Hill will be no great loss. The Hill is open but with the dubs packed in, all are eager to sing and it is possible to generate noise, roof or no roof, if enough people are up for it. Although a few times though when I've had to sit, I could see the Hill going mad as usual but it wasnt nearly as loud as you imagine when youre there. When the Hill was being redeveloped two years back,the majority of the hill crowd were in the Canal and the noise was deafening at times.

Bucket seats are allowed, thats being confirmed before as they are fixed to a permanent structure and the rent is a % of revenue so empty seats = no revenue to FAI or GAA!

Id much prefer to push UEFA to allow standing on the terraces and then have the area for the home supporters. If the FAI were to push for this they may well get support from premiership clubs as I believe many want to reintroduce terraces!

AFAIK, but open to correction, the GAA done up the hill initially in the late 80s and hatched a deal with the drumcondra residents not to rise it again for at least 25 years as it would leave certain houses in permenant shade. this was only applicable to that part of thestadium. they then done it up with the rest of the ground in the mid-nineties but its still the same height as they had promised. also, not a GAA man but the stadium is theirs and theirs to decide on whenever they want to do it up. us beggars cannot be choosers

Delaney announced the other day that the away fans would be on the 7000 capacity Hill. The other 79000 seats will be for the Irish.

And the Hill does not look "silly".
