April 10 2006 Monaghan United Notes

    MONS –V- ROVERS
The biggest crowd Monaghan United have seen at a League match in years is expected on Good Friday at Century Homes Park when United take on first time relegated Shamrock Rovers. This will be a tense game with Monaghan trying hard to diminish Rovers current 8 point advantage at the top of the table and Rovers trying to hold onto their unbeaten run. Shamrock Rovers beat Kilkenny City last weekend 1-0 to maintain their form whereas Monaghan had a weekend of rest due to the postponement of their match against Finn Harps due to a waterlogged pitch at Finn Park.

Shamrock Rovers were undoubtedly one of the giants of Irish Football and this is their first time in the lower leagues. They have a strong squad and have dispatched efficiently with all the teams they have faced so far this season, so Mick Cooke and Co will be hoping to cause an upset and take at least a point from this encounter. Our last home game, David Lee and Robbie Smith secured the 3 points with their goals leaving Cobh mourning a 3-1 defeat. It is hoped that “Leesa” and Robbie will continue to find the net and maybe Monaghan will be able to take all the points.

    IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR FRIDAY’S GAME
As a large crowd is expected on Friday night for the Monaghan United – v- Shamrock Rovers match, fans attending are requested to arrive early. Kick off is at 8pm. Fans are also asked to co-operate fully with all stewards directions at all times.

Monaghan United Ladies drew 1-1 versus Armagh City at Holm Park last night, United's goal coming from Suzanne Gordon. With the beginning of the League only a couple of weeks away, the Ladies have a busy schedule ahead, playing Grove Rangers away on Friday afternoon followed by a home game on Easter Monday against Fermanagh Mallards with a 5 pm kick off. All players please be advised to meet at clubhouse at 9.45am on Friday morning. Hopefully there will be no hangovers from last night’s quiz!

ALL SQUARE BETWEEN O’CALLAGHAN AND FINNEGAN! (Courtesy of www.monaghanunited.ie)
It was honours even between Ger O'Callaghan and Stephen Finnegan in Ballybofey last night, the game finished 1-1 with both United men in the starting line-ups. Ger O'Callaghan almost opened the scoring as early as the 2nd minute, but his free-kick was turned round the post by Hogg in the Northern Ireland goals. The Republic of Ireland Schoolboys needed a win to finish the tournament level on points with England.
    Teams:
Republic of Ireland: Karl Coleman; Michael Leahy; Wayne Greaves; Conor Powell; Gerard O Callaghan; Timmy Purcell; Declan Carroll; Patrick Mullins; Jack Douglas; Martin Doherty; James O Shea.
Northern Ireland: Aaron Hogg; Aaron Smyth; Chris McGaharan; Gareth Mc Conaghie; Tennant Mc Vea; Ryan Berry; Stephen Finnegan; Ryan Kane; Gordon Patton; Jamie Gardiner; Ryan Tumelty.

    SUMMER CAMP 2006

    True.

Where's the facilities? On the cow terrace behind the goal??

Unique in Monaghan to have an entire terrace, or in their case, grassy bank, reserved for cows. Cannot be seen elsewhere in world football!! Sometimes they make up half the crowd at the game!!

Shamrock Rovers fans slagging us off about facilities. It's not even ironic.
