I apologise (if that was directed at me). There'll be a proper counter-claim tomorrow hopefully.

Edit - in fact, it's at the previous post.

[MOD EDIT: It wasn't directed at anyone in particular, just in general. Putting my response here to avoid interrupting the thread. --adam]

What about the Rovers fans who are members? The NLSA represents its members who are league fans. Most certainly is not ad-hoc by the way. An association of fans who want the league to progress. Whats wrong with that?

Yes Genesis should have consulted the SRFC Members Club.

    42. I haven’t read the report, so could someone please correct me if I’m off here. The impression I’m under is that the report wants no more than four clubs from Dublin. Given Dublin has around one third of the population of the country, how is this justified?

I would recommend you read the report and then I would be happy to answer any questions you have. I think 43 below answers your specific question.

Me. I assumed that it wouldn't be put to McNiece when the next post after it clarified what I was asking.

    Is it
    "not enough people weren't interested"
    or
not enough people who might have been interested were asked?

Pity that what could have been a constructive discussion in which Genesis/FAI/Government is held to account descends instead into in-fighting.
I suggest a separate thread, or even section, for NLSA-related spats.
Does no one else think it significant that Genesis are saying quite emphatically and unambiguously that groundsharing is not their idea?

lads the NLSA have been mention all the way through the Q&A so there no harm in raising something concerning them but agreed, if something warrants a thread of its own then it should be started.

If you are to re-launch the league then I think it requires support in developing it is a brand. One aspect of developing the brand will be the name. There are numerous examples of leagues that have done this. Look at the success of football, rugby union, rugby league, cricket, even ice hockey in the UK at doing this. The re-branding will only be taken seriously if it is backed up by a fundamentally different proposition.

That means all aspects need to be re-vamped including structure of the league, facilities, marketing, administration etc. However, in looking at options around names then the attributes that you want emphasised are the fact that it is an Irish league, is professional in attitude and delivery, it is new, it is different to what went before, it is high quality, and the best of what Irish football can offer.
This, to me, is the fundamental flaw in the plan. The television football fans in this country aren't going to be convinced by a re-branding whose main components are a name change, a switch back to the ten team premier and a re-arranging of the teams.

The main positive proposal in the report (and the main positive in the FAI's new found interest in the league) is the proposal to build a range of 5,000 to 10,000 seater stadia with good spectator facilities. Building these stadia will take years and is not going to be done in time for the relaunch in March 2007. The other proposals like improved marketing and administration are also long term tasks. A marketing blitz for the relaunch in March is of course a good idea but should be a part of a long term plan, not a once off.

While there are some changes which can be made immediatly it's my opinion that what's needed for the league is some good old fashioned long term planning and hard work, not a once off rebranding which aims to portray the new league as something different to what came before but in reality offers a very similar product under a new name.

    Link to Genesis Report please?

Lads, has anyone got a working link to the actual Genesis report please? I tried the FAI website - Face's link to there from the original post in this thread is dead (quelle surprise), tried the Genesis site - went round in circles to no avail (their download link doesn't bring you to the report), tried the Search facility on here - no joy, tried Googling the damned thing but most of the links are to the FAI website which...

Alternatively, anyone who can e-mail me a .pdf version, PM me.

    Ta very much.

I put it up on the STIG site. You can get it from there and I'll take it down again in a few days.

Would be no harm if a few people downloaded that, just so people will have access to it in the future.

Has anyone got an version of the first two reports, what ever the public got ??

Is there any reason why this can't be hosted permanently on Foot.ie? Is it in the public domain?

It was definitely on the FAI site -- I had a working link to it from somewhere on foot.ie -- so it is in the wild as they have published it.
I've tried googling it a few times and it doesn't show. Nor is it on the waffle-fest that is the Genesis site. It's listed, but the link didn't work when I tried it. Hmm...
In future, let's hope that those regurgitating the mantra of 'radical' solutions for the League of Ireland will refer to 'the insightful, but now well-hidden, Genesis report.'

I asked the FAI and was told that I'm free to distribute it.

Right, I've added it to face's general sticky thread in this forum (down the bottom). I also converted to a much smaller (1.6MB) PDF.
