    Outlandish claims by David Jeffreys

This is taken from eleven-a-side. There's a touch of the Special One about Jeffreys and to suggest that the authorities are out to get Linfield is absurd. Roy O'Donovan has a hefty ban as well. These sort of comments are of little benefit to anyone, least of all the organisers.

Linfield manager David Jeffrey has slammed Setanta Cup organisers following the imposition of an additional one-match ban on striker Glenn Ferguson which rules him out of this evening’s vital final round clash against Glentoran at Windsor Park.

Ferguson was cited by referee David McKeon following his dismissal during the February 28th meeting with Glens at the Oval.

He served a ban in the victory over Shelbourne, but has now been dealt an additional suspension by the Irish Football Association arising from the referee’s report.

And Jeffrey feels the authorities are hell-bent on making things difficult for his side in their attempt to successfully defend the trophy.

He told the Belfast Telegraph: “Glenn Ferguson is out suspended for the Glentoran game and it is ridiculous because he has already served a one-game ban.

"He should never have been sent-off in the first place and now he’s been given an additional suspension on top of the automatic ban he has already served.

“[It] tells me that there are people trying to do whatever they can to stop us keeping hold of this cup.”

Uh, why? Linfield fans and Jeffrey seem to be living off their own hype. Linfield doesn't actually mean that much to people down here. They've had it their own way for so long, big fish in a small pond, and from what I gather from Glens fans and the rest, favoured by the IFA. That just makes him look silly, paranoid and deluded.

Linfield bring a huge amount to the competition and it is an awful lot better for their participation. McKeon is a bad referee; that is all.

I don't buy into any conspiracy theory against Linfield but I do believe that there have been people who, for whatever reasons, are out to get us. The decisions throughout this competition have continually went against us. In our first match at home to Derry City we got absolutely nothing from the ref in the entire match. Against the Glens in the next game we had one of the most ridiculous penalties I have ever seen awarded and Glenn Ferguson very harshly sent off when worse tackles from Glentoran players did not merit the same punishment. Throughout the entire game some of the decisions from McKeon had to be seen to be believed. We then had the ridiculous sending off away to Shels, although we admittedly did get the benefit of a decision at home to them when our second goal could well have been disallowed, although this would have had no outcome on the result. Now there is this decision to take one of our top players out of a vital game, a decision that undoubtedly helps the two EL clubs. Why has this only been implemented now?

I think any red card means a straight one-game ban. The disciplinary people meet subsequently to decide if it should be anymore. So what happened to Spike happened to O'Donovan.
People are not out to get Linfield. Analyse the bad decisions in isolation and you get:
Derry v Blues - I watched this game and though there were some dodgy decisions, Linfield fans are way over the top about any perceived bias.
Glens v Blues - sh*t referee, end of story.
Linfield v Shels - lucky to get the second goal, no bias to either side though.
Shels v Linfield - awful decision, that is all.

Come on lads - it's a serious of events, not part of any overall plan to get at ye.

How come Colin Hawkins has not got an extra ban as he stapped deliberately on the back of a Linfield player to earn his red card?

The competition is run by Setanta & the FAI who have very close links to Shelbourne. Setanta are run by some of the same people in Newstalk 106 which sponsors Shels...

City fans thought Roy O'Donovans ban was a little harsh but accepted it as long as was similar bans given to other violent red cards.

I honestly believe that only for poor refereeing we would have already qualified.

Pete you don't truly believe this do you!? I'll have to get a loan and back Shels so.
I might be on my own but I don't think Hawkins did your man. It was more awkward than anything else - like Gerrard on Nolan in England.

... but double the stake on Jason Byrne at 7-2 for top scorer, and more again on the second-placed Division 1 team at 9-1...
Anyway, Bohs are level on points with Shels, and are very much in the hunt as long as that stays the case

Of all your shels bashing posts Pete this is one for the scrapbook!
Setanta and the FAI have close links with shels :? Can you explain that in a little more detail please. Also people who own Newstalk sponsor Shels and therefore what exactly God you are a nutcase if you believe all this.

Hawkins probably did deserve RED but a one game ban is more then enough as it wasnt too nasty. Roy on the other hand is building up a bit of a reputation and 2 games out wont do him any harm in the long run.

As, say, "ridiculous" as the one given at the Brandywell against us?

There is no widespread or individual / shady group conspiracy against Linfield in this competiton. End of.

You lot like to believe and perpetuate this by trotting out myths like the penno claim above (seen 'em given loadsa times) and the outrage over Furgy's dismissal was tampered when some of your own fans actually AGREED with the ref. By advocating this bias nonsense, it helps fuel your own sense of self-importance. And for those of you who have been charmed by loveable DJ the wisecwacking wogue over these past fe weeks, be warned: the man is prone to bizarre, bug-eyed outbursts which defy all logic.

What next: "the Setanta needs a strong Linfield"?
The only Irish club to win a European trophy.

Dunno what to make of Jeffreys really. I mean, he was disgribed by a Gah girl as a perfect gentleman in getting Windsor for the Camogie lassies a while back and, at other times he gets a bit narky.
TBF, he must have congratulated and praised "Drog - heda" at least 10 times last night on Setanta. I don't think Doolin mentioned Linfield too much in his interview an auld "hard luck" to then would've been nice.

BTW, could some of you Drogs lads tell him to stop using the expression "to be fair". Drives me nuts, it does.

Congrats to the Drogs though, they were mighty on the night.
