    No it is not. FACT!

Floodlights differ, and there is a certain minimum lighting strength needed for televised games (I remember someone beiong an expert on this matter on JW's old eircom league forum)

I think Setanta would do a good job of an EL highlights show, if their Serie A highlights show is anything to go by. They give decent stats and coverage, although there is no studio chat. But id rather more coverage and goals with a voiceover than whats on offer on TV3. They also have a good Scotish weekly round-up. Only problem is not everyone in the country has Setanta.

I assume that's a generic show produced by the Italian league. I think Setanta would do a better job than the current TV3 version though. Maybe they could sell it on to RTE or TV3 for them to show a day later or something?

It would still have to be shown at a decent time.
11.30pm and 6am are ridiculous times to show the programme.

I've gone to the trouble to look up this information from the Club Licensing Manual and post it here to show the different floodlighting requirments for the various license category's.

A License The stadium must be equipped with a Floodlighting System complying with the minimum average lux level specified in the relevant UEFA club competitions regulations. If this is not achieved UEFA may allow daylight kick off time. The FAI will issue an FAI floodlighting Certificate based on verified measurement records from FAI-approved contractors.

B License The stadium must be equipped with a Floodlighting System. The Floodlighting System must have a minimum average lux level of 500 Ev obtained from 88 readings taken on a
grid system provided by the FAI Club Licensing Department (see FAI Floodlighting Measurement Procedures). The FAI will issue an FAI Floodlighting Certificate based on verified measurement records from FAI-approved contractors.

C License The stadium must be equipped with a Floodlighting System. The floodlighting System must have a minimum average lux level of 250 Eh obtained from 88 readings taken on a grid system provided by the FAI Club Licensing Department (see FAI
Floodlighting Measurement Procedures). The FAI will issue an FAI Floodlighting Certificate based on verified measurement records from FAI-approved contractors.

You seem to struggle with fact so I'll spell it out for you.
We drew 0-0 away to UCD. Therefore we were not good enough to beat them. We didn't do enough on the night and as a result, weren't better than UCD.

I was talking about the highlights from your division being hard to watch. Couldn't bring myself to watch an entire game.

Well that's your arrogance.Rovers v Galway was a really entertaining game with good quality football. Not having a go at Longford or Sligo but by all accounts that game was full of hoofing.(just an example no disrespect intended).By saying you wouldn't watch a 1st Divison game is a bit rich.In fact there was a bigger crowd at Galway v Harps than at least 3 if not 4 premier games last weekend.
Obviously premier league is better than the 1st...but no way is the standard of football between the bottom 6 better than the top 4 of the premier IMO.

No one ever suggested it was. The reason they're in the bottom 6 and we're in the top 4 is because we're so much better, obviously!

Lads, can you all settle down a bit in fairness, its a good debate .... try and contribute to it .... if you cant then just leave well alone.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

by all of whose accounts ??? we were crap in longford, but i thought longford played good football in parts and we played well for a spell; all on the ground i might add. one or two long passes doesnt exactly constitute hoof ball. . Conor, when galway get promoted you wont give a crap about the first division. It's only natural that you want more coverage of the 1st division but it wouldnt be a topic if galway were in the prem. I was the same for the past six years of first division football. It's frustrating but once ye get into the prem you'll forget about the pain of playing in the first division. Yer well equipped for Prem football. I've only seen 4 games this season, but derry were the only ones who ran us ragged. There might not be much difference between top first division teams and lower prem teams, but getting out of the first division is the biggest and most notable step towards proving your good enough.

the first division deserves more media coverage than it does?

The football is good most of the times when the refs let the games flow (against monaghan the ref gave free for harmless fouls where he could have easily played advantage )

The is gap between the quality of the first & premier but it is as big as most of you think.

It's all very well running to the floodlight rule-book, but we all know it's a cop out.

    1. All the league grounds have floodlights.
    2. 95% of the entire league's games are played at night.
    3. If there is a title decider involving a club playing in a ground where the lights are said to be below standard, it will still be Live on tv.
    4. Invariably said game will be played at night.

That's the nub of the issue.

In England, every single match outside the Premiership is covered by both terrestrial and satellite tv, and have a weekly highlights show on both networks. Non-league matches are also shown live on satellite tv. That's how it should be done, so that all levels of football are catered for.

In any case, teams haven't exactly been pulling up many trees so far this season in the Premier Division. Last week featured 2 victories, Bohs lost their first 3 games 1-0, Cork have had two 0-0's already, Shels have had only 3 draws, not many goals have been scored, and games have been postponed. Hardly worth your hard earned €15, is it?

In fairness RT i did hear Longford were worse and i wasn't having a go at Sligo....just using an example to proove my point.
