If you want better coverage, provide better pictures!
The First Division is less significant than the Premier Division, fact!

Does any one know how long TV3 has the rights to eircom weekly?
It would be great if Seanta /RTE/ or even TG4 could get the rights to it(they coundnt make the show anyworse because lets face eircom weekly on TV3 show is crap
But for now it is all we have and it has to be better than nothing I suppose (just about)

Peadar are are you too superior to notice it.
Ok, here's the deal. There was a goal scored at a First Division game on Friday. Some of the home fans are upset about it. It was showed at least twice on the highlights show produced by a national station. Now do you really expect that it deserved any more coverage or debate?Originally Posted by Magicme
Some galway boy called me arrogant but it's fairly arrogant for them to expect greater coverage of their game, on a national TV station. It's bad enough that TG4 is disgracefully biased towards galway without eL weekly going that way as well.
You've failed to beat Harps twice in the space of 5 days, you're simply not good enough to beat them! There's nothing else to say!

Aw fair enough but they should have a bit of coverage or at least discussion on both leagues. I have stopped staying up on a Monday nite to watch it coz the only mention we will get is in the results. We played a blinder against Cobh on Sunday, scored 3 great goals against a team who were nearly in the promotion play off last year and we came second last in that season....do u not think that deserved some mention? Considering Scully was there and took loads of notes (not blaming him coz TV3 would say what would be discussed and not really blaming TV3 either coz they do a grand job) but just think that there should be a longer show with a bit more time given to the 1st Division...how else are we gonna get people to come out and believe that we have a viable team to market?Originally Posted by Peadar
RTÉ had years of control over TV rights for football in Ireland but almost completely ignored the domestic game until they got some competition from TV3.Originally Posted by Trainee
Now you can go back to those dark days if you want but until TV3 came along, we didn't even have a regular highlights programme with discussion.
RTÉ don't deserve any second chances!
As for Setanta, they don't have a terristrial channel and therefore would deny many fans access to their coverage.
eircom league weekly isn't great but at least TV3 are trying.

Do you have cameras at your home games and do you supply pictures to TV3?Originally Posted by Magicme

Not at the moment...hence my comment that they should "discuss" the games....not necessary to have camera there to have a minute of saying..."well mons played well there yesterday....etc"
How are they supposed to discuss the games unless they have seen them?Originally Posted by Magicme
I would imagine that Pat Scully wasn't there at the request of TV3.
You're fighting a losing battle. Read the local papers if you want match reports.

I wasnt fighting any battle! I just commented that its a pity that they dont give a bit more time to 1st Division coz some of us care about it. I do read the papers but on Monday the only one with any coverage of our game was the Star. I have no doubt that Scully wasnt there on request of TV3 but I dont think that a comment or 2 from him on what he had seen would have gone astray!
Afaik, TV3's NL weekly show is set for the axe, as their deal with the international team expires at the end of the year. They've also lost the CL rights too, after this year's semi-final. If that's the case, Setanta should take over next year, and if so, will do a far better job, by marketing the league properly, covering games with professional cameras, free of charge to the clubs. They're the only broadcaster who actually give a toss about the LOI.Originally Posted by Peadar

Poor lighting.
Unsuitable TV gantries.
Insufficient camera mount points.
There's a lot more that the clubs could be doing to help themselves.
I do agree however, that Setanta are likely to make a decent effort, judging by what we've seen of their coverage to date.
They're also more likely to screen a longer show, at a more convenient time.
What percentage of the population has Setanta Sports though?

The points you mention, still don't prevent Setanta from making the average ground look good. They even make Belfield look good on tv.Originally Posted by Peadar

Similiarly, what percentage of the population watches NL weekly on a free-to-air station at 11.30pm/6am?![]()
It's not about how many watch it but how many are in a position to watch it. You may have noticed that Setanta didn't show games from Drogs or Portadown in the Setanta Sports Cup this year. That's because the lighting isn't good enough.Originally Posted by mypost

...or the fact, that there were other fixtures that were considered to be of more interest to their viewers on the night. I simply don't buy excuses about lighting quality. Floodlights are floodlights are floodlights. Ftr, they did show games from Portadown last year.Originally Posted by Peadar

Read the Club Licensing document.Originally Posted by mypost
None of this changes the fact that if clubs like Monaghan don't supply footage from their games, it doesn't matter who produces the show, they're unlikely to discuss games that they haven't seen.

The first division is just as important as the premier Div
The Iish media should give it more coverage. Nearly most of the times on 2fm/today fm they wont even give fixtures or results on their sports news
It would only take 30 secs on eircom weekly to even comment on the table etc
How many Cork/ Shels fans etc would still go to the games if they were in the bottom half of the first division
It is easy to support a team who sucessful
