2-0 at Wembley 1980 European championship. Keegan 2 if I remember correctly the second chipped over the great Ron Healy.
England have not beaten Ireland in a FIFA competive match since 1957![]()
(4 draws, 1 Ireland win, if my stats are correct).
Something for you to casually drop into the conversation, the next time
you are talking to an England supporter![]()

Correct, the return in Dublin was 1-1, Bob Latchford and Gerry daly got the goals I think..Originally Posted by gspain

I thought that match was a friendly myself..can't remember though

There was a friendly in '85 in Wembley. We lost 2-1 and Brady scored thanks to a virtual own goal by Gary Bailey. I think Lineker got theirs but I'm not sure.
It was a competitive match - our last in the group to qualify for Italia 80.
That database you linked to is a mess and missing loads of games.
its the 85 game i'm thinking of...thats when O'keefe played up front...remember it now

Aye, that was the last time we lost to them ever. The goal was Lineker's first for England - may have been his debut too, though I'm not certain of that.Originally Posted by Stuttgart88

I don't know why the game isn't listed maybe because it was a UEFA
Actually I just found this just below the search buton:-
"FIFA World Cup match data is available from 1930 and 'A' match data is available from 1985 "
Which seems to explain it.
That database is very flawed, it even has us having played El Salvador, as an "A" international, Jack Charlton would never allowed the 1st team to play a friendly in Los Angeles on the 7th of August 1988. That must have been a "B" international.
Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Club (RISSC London).
I was at that game. A friendly and a section of the Irish fans booed the black players playing for England. My brother, who lived in London but who wasn't a soccer fan and was at the game with me, was shocked by the behaviour.Originally Posted by pineapple stu
Thankfully, the Irish soccer fan has moved on.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
Moved on to Rangers players?Originally Posted by OwlsFan
