cheers colinR - i thought i was the only one!!! It was technically brilliant but as you say it tailed off as the end came near ( to be expected in a mojor final).
And yes owls fans - i would class utd as that!
the first seventy minutes or so of that match were absolutly top class. passing, control and technique were amazing, and better than you would see from man utd or arsenal. the last twenty mins or so and extra time, the game got worse as the ante was upped i suppose. it certainly wasn't boring, but it did lack a certain degree of excitment (or mistakes!) in order to call it a great game.Originally Posted by OwlsFan

I missed that one, it was 1996 and it was on a Sunday . I went to see UCD Women's team play a College League match instead. Beat UCC 3-2 after being 2-1 down with 15 minutes left .The College Girls went on to win every trophy imaginable in College footie that season. So I made the right choice!Originally Posted by OwlsFan

1990 WC Final was pretty dire I thought. 1991 European Cup Final (Marseilles vs Red Star) in Bari was a disgrace of a match. Both sides playing for 0-0 and penalties from the start.
What about the Ireland Switzerland world cup qualifier last October. The game was built up but in the end it was a very poor match and seemed to lack the excitement of a game where a place at the world cup finals was at stake.
my memory of that match was that marseilles attacked for the 120 mins, but red star wouldn't budge from outside their box for the whole game, and then got what they wanted on the penalties. i think your being a bit unfair on marseilles there..Originally Posted by Stuttgart88
Maybe you're right. I was disgusted because it promised to be such a good match and Red Star had so many good players. The game had 0-0 written all over it from early on though I think.Originally Posted by ColinR
A match a few years ago in the Dutch league involving PSV. PSV needed a point to win the league and their opponents who name escapes me needed a point to stay in the top flight. The back four of both teams passed the ball to each other and there were absolutely no shots on target. What amazed me is that Channel 5 showed it on their Thursday night late night football show! The teams should have been hauled up for cheating as an agreement was clearly reached beforehand.
"The Derry fans were fantastic in both matches. They sang their hearts out all the time and created an even better atmosphere than the Cup Final. They were brilliant. - David Graham, Gretna striker
Two FA Cup finals for me, th already mentioned Liverpool v Man Utd and Aston Villa v Chelsea circa 2001. Haven't seen a boring champions league final tbh. Loads of other meaningless games would probably be worse

The majority of the FA Cup Finals since the early nineties have been rubbish
Unlike the majority of F.A.I. Cup finals which have been, alright not classics ,but entertaining for the most part!Originally Posted by Donegalcelt

Im with you there too. I'm sick of people saying that it was a boring game just because nobody scored (as you say, no mistakes). 4-4 draws can be shocking games of football but people don't see it that way. Milan-Juve CL2003 was a classic.Originally Posted by footballplease
My list ;
Germany-Austria 1982 Anschluss
Ireland-Norway 1985
England-Norway 1994
Ireland-Egypt 1990
Ireland-Norway 1994 WC
in fact every game Norway play.
Agree with Utd-Pool FAC1996 but Keane was outstanding and they gave the Fat Frog man of the match.
