Suppose it's just a business venture to them although Quinn has an emotional tie to S'land.
Anyway, other than a few Premiership clubs, UK footie is hardly a good business proposition in any case, is it??

That's adding to my point ,at least losing money in the EL would reduce their earnings in Ireland thus reducing their personal tax liabilities at home!

    Cheers amigo. Great point too.

Look at the transformation in Longford after a local bloke backed them...and Drogheda too.
Same thing is happening in Athlone - number of local businessmen have joined the club management which bodes well.
Maybe it's the business equivalent of event junkies with the likes of JP McManus back Limerick Gah.

I thought it was the Limerick GAA board he's behind - hurling as well but funny point though.

Why bother? Even Cork has a fanbase about 10% of the size of Sunderland's. Sure, maybe an eL club with enough money would be in Europe enough to actually become useful and high profile enough to attract more fans, but it might also just be a sink hole for your money. Quinney's €1.5 million would bail Shels out of trouble, but they'd be none the better for it in five years time. You'd need deep pockets to start at that lark, and it probably looks riskier to a businessman.

I still think this thread should be moved to World Football if the other ex Irish Players dealing with English and Scottish clubs end up there.

Yeah but him taking over sunderland will improve the club as a whole thus benefit the likes of lawrence and elliott ..

I know it would do me the world of good not having to listen to him on the premiership footie panels anyway

Thats purely subjective and going by that logic, any thread which deals with a club that has Irish players on their books , should be in the Ireland forum rather than the world forum.

What I am looking for is consistancy and not one rule for Roy Keane and another rule for Niall Quinn or vice versa. The names do not matter but surely there should be a consistant approach to this.
