Peadar, that performance was improved tenfold on our last two. Crowe was outstanding again, our best player ATM. We did everything but score, but at least we look like clicking now.Originally Posted by Peadar

Very true Peadar, why poor Gary O'Neill is being ignored I don't know. Thought Cahill had a very good game, starting to regain some confidence. Ryan and Crowe our best 2 players so far this season. Crawford was missed when he came off, Reynolds was poor. Joey can be frustrating at times, he has the potential to do so much more. Rogers very solid too.
To say that we feel hard done by with some of the decisions in this competition is a major understatement. We had a ridiculous penalty given against us when playing the Glens and another very harsh sending off in that game which deprived us of a key player last week (not that it mattered). David McKeon who refereed that game is quite simply the most blatantly biased referee that I have ever witnessed. We got very little given to us in our home game with Derry and then last night we had to play a large chunk of the match a man down after a quite ridiculous sending off. Despite all this we still top the group after an absolutely heroic performance by our team last night and what other team could bring those sort of numbers for an away group game on a Monday night?
Couldn't see what happened for the first sending off. Thought Hawkins deserved to walk for the second. He does have a bit of retribution in his make-up - I remember him walking for headbutting Robbie Doyle too. This kind of petty stuff needs to be stamped out (excuse the pun)
While I thought we bossed the game. even before the sending off, our inability to score is worrying. Three games now. Jason was muck. You can say we were unlucky, but if you can't score, you won't win.
Incidentally, I saw nothing 'heroic' about Linfield's performance last night. They simply brought Ferguson back in defence, and played for a draw. And Gault seemed to stay down after every slight challenge.

Ridiculous sending off last night for the Linfield lad. Haven`t seen the Hawkins incident again, should he have gone? Not all decisions have gone against you, what about the elbow on delaney last week for the 2nd goal? All these incidents just show up the standard of refereeing, I wouldn`t call them biased just inept.
Great numbers from Linfield last night and hopefully there wasn`t any trouble. Seemed as if it was going to kick off at the front of their section of fans at one stage in the first half. Talking to a few of the Linfield crowd before the game and they were sound enough but WTF are the Bobby Sands songs about.......has nothing to do with the football and really ****es me off listening to ****e like that at matches

The only Irish club to win a European trophy.
Plus they have more fans...

Fenlon said before the match that they had been out-fought last week. Clearly, he sent out his troops to do some kicking, and they did, just as they've done before.
Disgracefully weak, inept refereeing. Cawley should have walked. Hawkins' cowardly stamp was deliberate and disgusting, and there were a series of other incidents where Kelly failed to act.
Is there no mechanism to follow-up on violent conduct, or is this cheating to be rewarded?
David, I can assure you that Dave McKeon isn't at all biased. He's quite simply a very poor referee. That said, we've seen some very poor refereeing up north as well. In our first game against Ports, there wasn't a single bad tackle or any bad undertones, yet 4 of our players were booked. That was just plain ridiculous!Originally Posted by David

It certainly seems that referees are very quick with cards in this competition. The number of suspensions we have had is incredible. We were missing three last week against Shels and one last night against them and unless the red card from last night is rescinded then another one next week against Derry. In domestic competitions I think I am right in saying that we have no had a player sent off this season yet that is now two in four games in this competition.Originally Posted by Peadar
I think the Linfield player went over to the shels player to show the ref how unhappy he was with the challenge & also wanted to highlight how he wasn't retaliating, Strictly speaking pulling your leg back shows intent but he never attempted to kick Crawley & some common sense show have been shown by the assistant - i think Kelly took his word for it as did not see himself.
Hawkins clearly stamped on Gault & definitely deserved red card.
Take the goggles off for a sec. Ferguson deserved to get sent off in that match, get over itOriginally Posted by David

The camera angle was very poor and made it look worse than what it was, it was never a red card and worse challenges were let go. Ferguson was fouled and then stuck his leg out to block the Glentoran player getting to the ball. If that is a red card, we will end up with 5 a side matches.Originally Posted by BohsFans
Just to point out by the way that we have actually had a player sent off other than in the Setanta Cup contrary to what I said earlier. McAreavey was sent off a few times recently and deservedly so.
"Southern Agenda" eh David![]()
Courteney was brock for both sides at the Oval last night so get over yourself.......
I think Shels have big problems on the pitch. Last night's performance was not good enough. I did not think they were going to score. I can't believe it is the same team that tore the Glens to shreds.
Linfield deserved their point for their organisation at the back and for their fighting spirit but the game was there for Shels to win it. Linfield offered nothing in attack and even balls cleared out of defence never stuck to Thompson. This meant Shels monopolised possession yet failed to open up Linfield.
Shels have the best squad in the league by a mile - on the island too I reckon yet they don't have the best team.
The Linfield sending off was a terrible decision but a point seemed to be the limit of their ambitions last night even before that.
Great atmosphere btw and great away support. Nice that there was no racism or sectarian chanting either (or at least none that i heard).
The group is heading for a really tight finish and impossible to call at this stage.
Really tempted to go to Derry now next Monday - should be an absolute cracker.
Agreed.Originally Posted by Lux Interior

There's just inept refs North and South and this applies to ALL teams.
You won the league last year yes, but still never brought any more fans to Longford than we did.
This we will maintain.
FFS all the way down to Dublin and I managed to miss the most talked about point in the game (Mackers sending off)
At the toilet!
So can't comment on it at all.
As for the game. Shels bossed the game to be fair and after Mackers sending off with us having to drop Spike (Ferguson) back into midfield thus playing Peter Thompson up front on his own, really the best we could hope for was a draw. This we achieved with each and every Linfield player putting in a tremendous shift.
All in all we came to Dublin happy and left Dublin happy enough.
As for our fans, personally I thought they were absolutely magnificent. Great vocal encouragement the entire game.
We were our 11th man this time.![]()
Great win for the Glens against Derry in the other game. This group is going to the wire.
"Come on ye Blues"
This we will maintain.
Linfield looked really up for the game & seemed to disprove my thoughts that IL team dodgy in defense. I agree that shels never looked like scoring. Shels have some of the best players in the league but unable to put them into a winning team... 3 goals without scoring. Only scored in 2 of 6 games so far this season...
