When was the last good run by any of them - was it when Villa won in Europe and Martin O'Neill had a good innings with Leicester, bringing them into Europe.
Is it lack of investment or something in the water there??
Weren't Villa okayish under Gregory for a while? Didn't he get them to the UEFA quarter finals and Villa finish around 4th? Also was there one year where under him where Villa topped for a few months before Xmas? O'Neill won two League Cups with Leicester and turned them into a non-relegation threatened outfit, but they were never a serious force. Villa are pretty skint now Hamish. Or did they get some fresh investment recently? The rest of the mentioned clubs don't have large resources to speak of. O'Neill always worked on a small budget at Leicester. I suppose Brum have spent a fair amount of cash and Villa used to, but still, there's nowhere near enough to compete with your Man Us, Chelseas, Liverpools, Arsenals, Newcastles etc.

they kept finishing top 8 with gregory but he could never take them higher, that and the bad relationship with satan reincarnated doug ellis ended that....taylor was usless,he left the following year...o leary performed a miracle and turned a crowd of rejects into a top 6 team for one year....but now they are rejects again and villa fans dont feel like giving him the chance to get top6 again

he just isnt the type of manager for villa....they want someone like stuart pearce
