Fantastic book. As good as, if not better than, Fever Pitch. I found it at the Boston Public Library.

€5 in Liber Bookshop, BARGAIN!
Fantastic book. As good as, if not better than, Fever Pitch. I found it at the Boston Public Library.
Far far better than Fever Pitch... best book about football ever written (he says!). Lent to loads of mates over here who know eff all League of Ireland etc and they all loved it.
Keep on keepin' on.
Great book. You can get it off Amazon if you're stuck. You'll have to wait a while for them to source it though.
i'm half way through it at the moment. read it about 5 times since i got it 2 years ago
"Even if the sun ceases to rise, Even if the sea ceases to flow, Even if the wind stops to blow, The name of Sligo Rovers will shine and shine forever like the morning, glinting star in the sky."
read it at least three times now...great book
I've also read the book and as a fan of another eL team I felt that Sweeney really gets at the essence of what supporting your team is all about. Quality read.
I got no lips I got no bones where there
were eyes there's only space
Top 5 best football books I've read would be in no particular order.....
Theres Only One Red and White Army by Sweeney
The Glory Game by Hunter Davies
Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby (he's become so ubiquitous it's akin to liking U2 but their first album was good !!!!!)
My Favourite Year - Edited by Hornby
Unforgiven, The Don Revie Years - Can't remember who wrote it
Honourable mention - Jack and Bobby by Leo McKinstrey.
Fantastic book also The Photograph and Waiting for the Healer are really good too. its a pity to see him writing about GAA now for that rag the Sunday Independent.
Yes a good bok but not a great book. Always felt it should have been called 'Only One Well Read Army'. Also I'm not totally certain but I think you can buy it in the Rovers shop beside the new Astra Pitch
Absolutely brilliant book from Sweeney. Have read it over and over since I bought it when it came out.
Good book,
I got it in the Eason discount shop a few years back for €1.50![]()

Really enjoyed Fever Pitch, but for me the best football supporters book that I have ever read is A Season with Verona by Tim Parks. He is an english guy living in Verona who goes to every home and away game in the 2000-2001 season following Hellas Verona. He travels with the supporters to all of the games - sometimes involving 12-14 hour bus trips up and down the country.
Must pick up a copy of There's Only One Red Army, is it available in the bookstores in town?
Lads, does anyone have a scan of the front cover of "There's Only One Red Army" ?? Can you email it to ifgrounds@gmail.com
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
dont have a scanner im afraid![]()
I can scan it at the weekend for ya
A Year with Verona is the best football book ever written, but only one red army hits the league of Ireland nail on head!
