well, would you not include the under-12's in this forum. Parents brought football teams of young fellas to the game, there was easily 500 free under-12's. So I'd say 3500 for argument sake

Could hear the dundalk fans that came late before they were over the bridge, Lads you must have nearly knocked all the windows out of that bus!. Created some atmosphere as well.

About 300 at the Athlone vs Cobh. Pretty good considering nothing to play for now we are out of the Cup and the bitter cold, windy night that it was.

Strange thing with the crowd was an awful lot of the usual heads were missing. Noticed an awful lot of under 16s there that I saw at the Cup but never in Mels before and they sung for 90 mins with the older ones. So very hard judge what will happen.

Not easy get new faces down to mels. Even find it hard myself sometimes on a cold night. But still make it for fear of missing something.

The home game against Galway will tell if we have got a boost or not.

As for next season the trick is going to be keeping the crowds that will go to the new ground for the novelty factor. The facilities that will be there will help a lot.

I don't see any mention of Blues v Shels so I'd go with 1200. Shels brought a decent crowd to Block A and I'm told Block B was about half full. C,D and E were full bar a few gaps. And then the three bunches around the ground - either side of the stand and directly opposite.

Do Shels fans ejected in the first half still count?

Block B was more full than that BM. It looked quite alarming up until about 2 minutes to kick-off, but filled up very quickly from then on, and was 3/4s full at least by 5 past kick-off. Block A was also quite full with a fairly big Shels contingent.
I'd say the 120 or so that the stand lacked was more than made up for by the crowd around the ground, easily 120 plus. So 1270 or so, minus the sundry absentees means my estimate is 1267!

    What does the stand hold?

The lads who were ejected from the ground have been banned from travelling on the supporter's coach afaik!

I think (I'm not too sure) it was for setting off a smoke bomb (those ****ty ones you buy in a joke shop) and for looking for trouble with the WUFC kiddy supporters. Don't take my word for it, maybe the other Shels can confirm/deny this.

Pineapple - as a lot of clubs are getting best of season crowds around this time of the year, can you put up the season best for each club if you have the info to hand, would be interesting to see it.

Thanks - oh and great work keeping all of this going each week - must take up a fair bit of your time.

A best of season row would be a good addition - and I echo the sentiments re great work on keeping this going Pineapple. Depressing that the fans themselves are the only ones keeping an eye on unimportant things like, oh - attendances.....

A good week overall for attendances last round as things hot up - pushing all 3 key averages up. I'm gonna stick my neck out even further and say that I reckon the season end overall average will reach at least 1,100. That figure would be less than 8% lower than last year, and not a worrying drop given the break for the World Cup and the number of mid-week games.

I'll put it up with the next update so. In the meantime, that column is included on www.european-football-statistics.co.uk, where I send these figures.

Why arent Galway's attendances bigger? They've a huge town. (ps this is not a bash on Galway or their supporters, I have family in Galway.)

Because Galway is the apathy kingdom of Ireland. However when the team is doing well our crowds go from 800-3800
But it's a pity that most only come out when the team is performing!

Why aren't attendances bigger in Cork, Derry, Limerick, Waterford, Dublin..... - I could go on !

All big cities in Irish terms - all getting relatively poor crowds for their size.

I think we know the answer really.
