    Glenn Roeder

Does anyone else think he should be given the Newcastle job on a permanent basis? He has transformed their season. It will be interesting to see how they cope in their next few matches.

He should but he can't take it till he gets his full UEFA Coaching licence which is why he has to stand down sometime in April.

I'd be surprised if he got it tbh, he failed at West Ham and couldn't hack the pressure there never mind the pressure that comes from 50,000 Geordies demanding success every week. He had a brain operation too so he mightn't be interested in putting himself under that type of pressure again anyway.

I follow Newcastle and wouldn't be too keen on him getting the job on a permanent basis.

Newcastle have made a couple of dodgy managerial decisions recently and going with Roeder won't really change their situation with regards league position. With their fanbase and the money they spend they should be after a manager of really high caliber like a Jol or Benitez.
The opinions expressed above are not those of my family, my church or myself,
but they are the opinions of Humphrey Bogart as revealed to me through the medium of my pet hamster, Dr.Samuel L. Jackson

Well despite the misgivings above, Newcastle have announced that they have been given the go ahead to appoint him as the manager even though he lacks the Uefa pro licence qualification required by the Premier League.

Tommy Craig, whom I assume is the ex-Wednesday player of the 1970s, will be head coach.

Very hard to argue with the results, in fairness. Superb turnaround to get them into Europe from where they were when he took over.

Due to the mediocrity of the Premiership it doesn't take much to transform a team from 14th place to 5/6/7th place

Roeder showed at West Ham he is an inconsistent manager.
A less ginger David Moyes, if you will

A remarkably disingenuous comment, I would have thought?! However easy or otherwise, he did it where other managers didn't.

Curbishley, Moyes and Hughes did the same with a weaker squad of players

They had plenty of time though. At least one full season, if not more. Roeder took Newcastle from 16th (?) to 7th in the course of half a season, which is far more impressive a feat.

What was the difference at Newcastle that Roeder brought in? With the same squad same defenders same amount of injuries. A run of good results that was sustained to end season.
Was Souness like an anchor to their ambitions?
I remember Eirebhoy tipped them for a top 6 place if they got in a central defender and a forward.
Instead they got rid of effective players bought a dud or two and spent a fortune on the most expensive player in the world re games played for cash payed.

I think judgment on Roeder should be reserved until he has proven he can handle the pressure that Freddie Shepard will place on him.
Even if they can keep Owen and buy some defenders a top 5 finish would still be all that is realisitically attainable.
Anything less and Freddie will be getting restless

Good luck to him. He's done well and if Freddie wants to appoint someone without the uefa qualifications let it be on his back. It's only a matter of time (3-4 years, hence 5-6 more managers) before Shearer has his badges and moves in there anyhow
