Longford v Sligo postponed 90 mins before kick off

now im not that weatherman who put the emphasis on "very" when saying "a very good evening to ya" but i know when its raining and i know when its going to rain for a while and the fact that we only found out that our big return to the big time where its all profeissional and its no more amateur first division is a bit'o disgrace

we only found out as we were about to enter longford and there were about 400 at least who had the same story

its not very fair and is it that hard to inspect at 3 instead of 5 o clock

how can the pitch be waterlogged in just 2 hours

and why did the people of sligo waste thousands[buses plus petrol plus homemade flags] on this pointless trip

I agree, the bus cost 15 euro for a wasted trip. Alan Kelly is a fecking idiot!

Fog has cancelled at least 2 Longford v Cork City games in the last 5 years i'd say with very late announcements. I think its something to do with the rules refs have to follow...

Same with us a few years back, always seems to be Longford. The ref and the two assistants were in the Longford Arms eating dinner, then went up to call the game off about an hour before KO. Surely they must know in advance that the pitch is not playable. Better not happen next week

I think a local might look at it early in the day, but doesn't have the power to call the game off.

alan kelly said he could start game but pitch would get so bad he'd have to pull it mid way through so took safe option.

hard position for him to be in

To be fair, the Flansiro does have a water retention problem. Last year, or was it the year before, we went down there and the pitch was perfectly playable at the start of the game, but a sudden heavy downpour meant it turned into a lake by half time, and the referee (I think it was Kelly again) really had no option but to call it off.
So I can well believe that pitch would be playable at 3pm but not at 5pm

Well folks I once travelled from Dublin to Cork in the Car to see a game between Cork City and U.C.D. at Turner's Cross which had a 2:45 kick off. I arrived at 12:45 and paid into the ground. Met some fellow U.C.D. fans and some City fans I have known for years. At 1:15 a cloud came over the Turner's Cross area and it bucketed for half an hour flooding the Donie Forde Stand side of the ground. And the referee had no option but to call off the game at 2:00. So I got back into the car and drove home.

Alan Kelly didn't arrive at Flancare Park until 6 o'clock the game was officially called of at 645. I sure the Longford officials knew at 5 that the game would be doubtful. Its disgraceful no one from the FAI was in the ground earlier

I got a phone call at 6.30pm to say the game was not going ahead so he was there before 6.45pm. Longford officials cannot call the game off

1928 said he arrived at 6pm, so therefore you are correct. Good observation there Maz .

Ya I said he arrived at 6. I know Longford officials cannot call the game off that’s why I said their should be some one from the FAI at the ground earlier

So did I, but I started taking two of these every morning and I've not missed a game since.
