Playing music when a goal is scored

Needless to say as one from the old school, I find this trend unnecessary and irritating. Surely fans should be on such a high after a goal is scored that music to also celebrate is not required. The spontaneity of the celebration is immediately drowned out by the music like some Nazis stage managed party congress. It's the way of the world I know - people cannot entertain themselves. Even the post goal celebrations now have to be orchestrated.

And while I am at it - does the patronising PA announcer at LAnsdowne Rd get under anyone else's skin? "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, you were all so well behaved. Aren't you wonderful". I'll never forget him at the end of the Swiss game giving us the answer to some pathetic quiz question as we were all in the depths of despair - I could almost have climbed into his commentary position and rammed his microphone up his posterior.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

It used to be the rocky theme years ago at Old Trafford. FCUM have used "This is the one", although not at a level that annoy. Hate songs over the tannoy after goals, I really do. I long for the days when the PA's were so crap it didn't matter what was on them, you couldn't hear it anyway.

While we're on the subject of music. It's bloody annoying when they play songs for 30 minutes after you've just picked up a trophy and want to give it your all. Fu*cking status quo and the like. You wait all year to win a trophy and then you can't even sing about it becuase you're drowned out by sh*te like that!

Particulary bad in the FA Cup and the playoffs in the UK.

This might be a bit old-school but what I hate is playing the latest pop music over the PA before a game when you have a perfectly good garda or army band sitting idle. I'd much prefer to hear them blast out a few tunes.

Also, having someone in to sing the national anthem (especially Brian Kennedy) just drowns out the crowd. I completly agree about music after a goal. It's the one point in the game where you need music the least.

Playing music when a goal is scored is a good enough reason to bring back stocks and public flogging.

Playing music after scoring is an import from North America. The NHL does it after goals in Ice hockey partly because there is always a time lag before play resumes of a few seconds .. goal celebrations and the like a la football. They even have a an organist to play some small snippets of music at different times during the game.
I can only imagine that it was introduced when so many games began being televised cross channel and it came in here as a copycat thing.

Hey Baby by DJ Otzi used to be played when Town scored. Embarassing is not the word. Think Bohs used to play 'Soul Man' by Andrew Strong from the Commitments when they scored. or did he change it to 'Bohs Man'?

I dont mind it at the cross. They usually(if anything) play the tune to the 'rebel army' song so people just join in.

The pa isnt the best anyway so its not too hard to drown it out

Middlesboro's is by far the most annoying but it's also funny to see the away fans mocking them, when they score.
