75-Year-Old Pa. Woman Charged With Robbery

A 75-year-old woman accused of robbing a bank with an unloaded pistol was arrested after a tow truck driver blocked her in after a short chase, police said.

Marilyn Divine of Baldwin said after her arrest that she acted "to help people who are starving to death and nobody cares about them." She didn't specify to whom she was referring.

Police said the robber walked up to the National City Bank inside the Shop n' Save supermarket in West Mifflin at about 10:30 a.m. Monday and demanded money from two tellers, brandishing a 9mm handgun. She was wearing a gray sweat suit, a Steelers tassel cap, and had a scarf pulled around her face, police said.

A former bank employee chased the woman's car until police took over and arrested her after a short, low-speed chase when the tow truck blocked her path. Police said they recovered all the stolen money, which totaled about $5,000.

Divine was in the Allegheny County Jail unable to post bond Monday night on charges including armed robbery and reckless endangerment.

Robber caught by 93 year-old groin-grabbing Granny

The robbery had seemed like a no-brainer. They had done their homework and had it all figured out. After all, what could a frail 93-year old grandmother, all alone in her apartment, do against two strapping young men if they decided to break in? What could possibly go wrong? That's exactly what two would-be-robbers must have been thinking when they knocked on pensioner, Soja Popova's apartment door in Lithuania last weekend.

But Miss Popova, from Klaipeda, was not quite as frail as she looked however, and shocked the two young men by fighting back fiercely and grabbing one of them by the testicles. The plucky pensioner, who says she has developed a "grip like iron" due to her many years of milking goats, held on tightly until police arrived on the scene to rescue the whimpering man.

It all began when Soja Popova, opened the door to her apartment in Klaipeda, Lithuania, last Saturday, and was shoved to the ground by two young men.

But she bravely fought back by grabbing the nearest by the testicles and squeezing "with all my force as hard as I could".

She told police: "He started screaming like an animal and his friend was trying to pull him free, but I have a grip like iron."

The man's screams of agony and his friend's shouts for the woman to let go alerted neighbors, who called police. When officers arrived a few minutes later Miss Popova, who still had the man's wedding tackle tightly in her grip, finally released her prey so police could take the injured man to hospital and his accomplice off to jail.

A police spokesman said: "They would not have got far, one of them could hardly walk and seemed pleased when he saw the police car".

Actually, it's a bit ironic when you think stop and think about it. After all, here's a young guy planning to steal this poor woman's valuables and family heirlooms but as it turns out, she ends up holding on to his 'family jewels' instead!

Armed Man Kills Self In Escondido Apartment

It was a tragic end to a long SWAT standoff after a 75-year-old man took his own life in Escondido.

The incident started just after 2:30 Monday afternoon at the Escondido Apartments in the 500 block of North Midway Drive.

Officers responded to the scene after the unidentified man got into an argument with his 92-year-old neighbor and punched the woman in the chest.

After speaking with officers, the man returned to his apartment.

He emerged with what officers described as an AK-47 assault rifle and began shooting while standing near his front door.

No officers were injured in the shooting, but they believed the man was wounded.

Hundreds of residents at the senior citizen complex were forced to evacuate.
