    Manchester

What's Manchester like around St.Patrick's day, it's on Friday so I expect there will be a bit of a weekend of it. Anyone got ideas where to go and best place to stay? Might be heading there...

    Cheers

Manchester on St Patrick's day is a city with old red brick chimney stacks from factories and textiles, a few high rise offices and flats, slums, a tramway sytem, terraced housing, railway stations, pubs, restaurants, McDonalds, WH Smiths, Dorothy Perkins, Ann Summers, churches, schools, shopping centres, football grounds (including that dump in Salford), motorways, postboxes, post offices, phone boxes, taxis, an airport, the canal, jail, police stations, courthouses, schools, universities, hospitals, a bus station, television stations, museums, libraries, the city hall, parks, mosques, temples, synagogues, Anglican Cathedral, cranes, garages, funeral homes, cemeteries and crematoriums, internet cafes, funeral homes. And oh, by the ways, there are people to keep the city functioning.

Theres a 3 week festival currently on with loads of stuff planned. Think the march is on Sunday 19th. Went to see I-Keano on Friday at the Lowry which was excellent, theres another couple of Irish plays on, loads of bands, Brendan Grace is on one night. And of course the boozers will be rammed.

To be honest I dont' tend to go out of my way to celebrate it as much as I did in my youthful days, but you'll have plenty of craic if you come up. Plenty of info here on the official festival

As for accomodation, plenty of good value places in the city. Jurys, Premier Lodges and this place might be worth considering Walkabout Inn hotel its part of the Australian bar chain, but decent rooms twins, trebles and quads, good location.
