id say it will go ahead provided it is not snowing opr the pitch is covered in snow.
Any word on the Harps game tomorrow night. Hard to see it going ahead given the weather. Made this point before but i think we could have done with a couple of more pre-season games given that there are so many new players. training toghether is fine, but most of them have only had one game together and that was against Galway.
id say it will go ahead provided it is not snowing opr the pitch is covered in snow.
hope its not abandoned because we need someone to whip b4 the season starts

I hear it's called off.
I have scattered my dreams underneath your feet, tread carefully, cos it's my dreams you walk on.
Yes thats now official.
Irish by birth ,Harps by the grace of god.
That's a bad blow. With so many new players we simply haven't played enough games ahead of the new season. And with respect, games against Saint Catherine's and St John's are hardly the same as playing Eircom League type opponents.
I wonder would Sean consider a game against some local opposition on Monday night at the Showgrounds.
st catherines,st johns, galway, newry, none really a big challenge,we should have invited bohs or cork or even a league one side to a friendly
Well yee did draw with us Rovers1.
Sure yee would hardly play Cork,Bohs etc when there in the same league as yee and English sides won't come over at this stage in the season.

newry&lisburn were decent tests. i'm sure he'll arrange a game if the harps one isn't rescheduled

i know!
in sat irish press sean connors says he was very pleased the way pre season training has gone as well as the chalenge games played. he says the team is raring to go. i know a lot of writers here are concerned with the fact that we have not played enough pre season friendlies against quality opposition , it maybe a valid point but we will have to wait and see. regardless of how good (or bad) the new players are it still takes time to gel a team togeather. if we get point on sat night i would be very happy. whats in our favour for sat night 1) element of surprise 2) excellent surface (sean says we have technically gifted players) 3) players who want to win and prove thwmselves 4) good away support. sean will have to ensure that the players know what type of a league they are playing in. longford will come out being very physical they are a strong team but not hugely creative up front. by the way anybody out there met any of the new players yet . how do they feel playing for the rovers , are they tuned into the expectations and the supporters. have they being socialising much etc
Sean says they all want to play in England well looks like they are in the wrong countryI hope they dont come over here with the attitude that this is a crap league and they can afford to take it easy because they will be sorely disappointed.
I read the comments in the Weekender last night and this is one of the things that bothered me. I never expected them to stay here forever but saying as they've just signed for us, they shouldn't be mentioning about wanting to return to England and using us as a "stepping-stone" back. Mansaram in particular said he just wants to play regular football again and return to England, which doesn't sound great to be honest, but then, if they produce the goods on the pitch, I don't really mind I supposeOriginally Posted by gustavo
. Provided we sign more people to replace them the following season that is.
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.
i think they will find that playing well here wont really help them in their cause to get back to england
flannery,o'grady, mckenzie, judge&jay were in toffs last nite. good to see new players are socialising with the other players already.Originally Posted by red arrow
a few ppl seem to think it's negative that these players are all hoping to go back to england, i see positives in it. if they are willing to come over to the west of ireland for a couple years to get back into the game over there they probably could have chosen a nicer place to come for an easy time than sligo. george o'callaghan is arguably the best player in the league and he said in the sunday times today that he'd like to go back to england

Difference with O Callaghan is that he has proved himself over here and it would take a good offer from an English club to go over ie Championship level .
i'm not sayin these guys are all gonna be succesful but i prefer to see the positives in their ambition to play at a higher level and i don't think connor would sign players that he suspects is here for an easy time as most of em were on trial with the club for weeks before they got offered contractsOriginally Posted by gustavo
