If you want free music from your favourite bands then you may as well walk into HMV, grab a few cds that you like and run. Same thing![]()
well if they were real artists they would be delighted so many people want to listen to there music , if there money grabbing ****s like u2 then you should nt buy or rob there songs or ever even listen to themOriginally Posted by ThatGuy

U2 made something like 150 mill of touring the last album the album made them 10 mill and yet bono has the cheek to complain when the album is downloaded .
bands make there money from touring how can downloading affect that !!.
as the artic monkey have proven downloading is going to have the same effect on the industry as coping tapes and recording songs from the radio .
Would ya mind giving me your bank account number. Dont forget the bank routing number while you're at it.
It is stealing any way you look at it.
"Jacques Santini...will be greeted in every dugout of the country by "one-nil, one-nil" - Clive Tyldsley, 89th minute of France-England June 13, 2004.
"Ooooohhhh Nooooooo" Bobby Robson 91st minute.
in days of old, musicians were no more than court jesters who lived in cellars and dungeons along with the rest of the hired help and were only allowed out when the court required some entertainment. how come in our era we celebrate these people so richly? time to send them back to where they belong I say and download their music for free!
how can a guitarist (for example) be paid more to entertain than a doctor to saves lives? it just dont figure!
Downloading music can actually get a band more money. I've downloaded stuff by bands that I found online that I'd never heard of before. Then I buy stuff of theirs that I can't get online. Then when they come to NY, I go see them. Come Christmas and birthdays, if I know anyone who'd like them, I buy them a CD of the band. All revenue that that band would never have had if not for illegal downloads. Decidedly unlike running in to HMV and nicking their stuff (HMV is crap anyway).
while i dont downloadif i did i would download an album for example listen to it if its crap like 90% of album s coming out now i delete it, if its good i feel the artist has made an effort and id go and buy the album in the shops and go to see them live .
Why don't you go and join the communist party thenOriginally Posted by Rover 2 U

if i got your bank account number robbed 20 euro then lodged 1000 would you complain about loosing the 20 euro or be delighted your up 980 ?
u2 lost 1 million on album sales but because so many had downloaded heard the songs liked them so much they decided to go watch them live from which they earned 150 mill .
if you go to a car shop are you alloud to drive the car first of course you are , you dont have to buy it then on the way home find there is only one good wheel ,you should be aloud to listen to an album before you buy it .
If you want to listen to an album before you buy it you ask the guy behind the counter in the shop to put it on in one of the listening terminals. You don't take the CD home and come back to pay for it if you like it.Originally Posted by anto1208
Downloading unauthorised MP3s is illegal. That album is more than likely available to pay for download if you choose to do so, and most download stores offer a preview service. Downloading them using Bit Torrent etc is illegal.
I think the gist of your point is that it isn't going to hurt a band like U2 with such a vast amount of money. You are of course correct, it wouldn't hurt them. It wouldn't hurt Tesco if you didn't pay for your shopping and it wouldn't hurt your local newsagent if you slipped a Mars bar into your pocket without paying for it either. However, it is still stealing no matter what way you justify it.
I don't care really, I have downloaded plenty of music so I am not getting on my high horse, I am under no illussions that what I am doing it legal though. I generally do buy albums that I want, and I would liken downloading mp3s to copying an album onto a tape. I mainly download rarities and stuff that I can not buy, or the odd single track from an artist whose album I either can not buy or have no intention of buying.
downloading is stealing but isnt selling an album , film , game under false pretences and not offering your money back stealing too .Originally Posted by ThatGuy
ever gone to a cinema seen a film that is so bad you look for your money back ? ever get it back i think not .
i recently bought 2 games in GAME they where for the pc, civilisation and rome both where advertised as brilliant both are rubbish i brought them back and was told i cant change them ,they cost me over 100 euro i cant take a risk like that again so its either download them then buy if there good or not buy any at all .
same with an album example: hard fi i listened to thought it was good bought it then after 3 or 4 listens changed my mind now im stuck with it , if i had downloaded it id have saved myself 20 notes .
What's your point? It is stealing, whetehr or not it is any good is irrelevant.Originally Posted by anto1208
i know its stealing , but if record comps etc can steal from us why cant we steal from them ?Originally Posted by ThatGuy
whether its good or not is inportant , if you buy a mars bar and it tastes horrible you get your money back , if you buy a toaster and it doesnt toast bread you get your money back . once you buy an album you dont have any come back no statutory rights as you do on all other products and services .

I have to laugh at rockstars suddenly calling for laws to be enforced. Bono broke the law that time when he spraypainted the statue when U2 played a show on a street in the U.S. The Rolling Stones spent a couple of years in France because they owed taxes they didn't feel like paying. Anyone in the music business who's ever used illegal drugs or had sex with a 17 year old has broken the law. Where are all these "artists" screaming for justice when these kinds of laws are broken?
And yes, of course downloading music is illegal. The more interesting question is whether it should be.
