I dont think Shels underestimated them really.. Should have won the first game in Tolka against Portadown but didnt as it ended 3-3. Then we went up to Portadown and should have won by a couple with ryan and a few others all missing easy chances.

Then we played Linfield and with a few players out we just fell apart and had a bad day out. Its been the only game of 6 now in just over a season where shels looked the weaker side.

We showed in the champions League games what we can do but then were told it was down to fitness and they were only pre season. then we play them in our pre season and are told its because they are tired and in-season ..

The bottom line is that Glentoran are a joke of a side who look very very badly organised and anyone but a poor Longford could have beaten them last season. They will finish bottom of the group and I feel the home draw for Linfield leaves them chasing Shels and Derry already but they may well finish 2nd. Swifts and Portadown will finish in the bottom two of their group from what I've seen.

There is a gap and just because the IL teams got some good results last season means nothing.

Anyone care to do out the full won drawn lost record to date?
Shels in the past 12 months have played 6 and won 4 drawn 1 and lost 1

I think you are way underestimating Glentoran. Last season they were champions of the IL.

Agreed Shels were different class on Monday but I thought Shels played very very well and albeit could (maybe should) have had 6. Glens appear to have gone backwards this season but I wouldn't be that cocky going to the Oval.

This group has a long way to go yet

i think shels are firing on all cylinders and are going to do really well this season. The team look well rested and played well. We should do well in the Setanta , Inter To To and the league !

I thought there would be more people at the Glens game and I thought there would be far more in the media about it. Last year was understandable since it was the first year with the threat of violance hanging over it.

It looks like a EL team is going to win it this year in fairness

Portadown played in the league last friday so no advantage there plus the long travel would disadvantage City too.

I think City looked much sharper than last seasons fixture & Portadown really only created chances from poor mistakes from unfit keeper & uncharacteristic fullback.

    Nah, just Shels
    Played 6, won 3, drew1, lost2
City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.

So they have gone backwards this season and were lucky to only get beaten 2-1 last year by shels in the Oval ?
I think its going ot be another win in the Oval this year. Nothing too easy but cant see anything other then a shels win as Glentoran will be out of it by that stage probably.

    Nah, just Shels
    Played 6, won 3, drew1, lost2
    We beat
    Portadown away
    Glentoran home
    Glentoran away
    Glentoran home

    we drew
    Portadown home

    we lost
    Linfield home

    4 wins 1 draw and 1 defeat

    Sorry Higgins.
Wrongly assumed you were staying on topic and talking about the Setanta Cup instead of your own concoction of fixtures with the norn'iron' crew.

Glentoran are going through a rocky patch but by the time shels go to the Oval, Millar will have the Glens lined out and playing the way he wants them.

Or by the time you face Shels you could be bottom of the group with little hope to finish 2nd ?

Sorry about adding the Champions League games but I feel they count in the debate about which league is stronger. Im sure after this season ends the stats will be in favour of the EL.

Is there still talk of getting a scottish team or two involved? That would really be nice and would increase the money invoved.

I'd rather 4 Welsh teams, although 4 groups of 4, each from different countries would be nice.
Celtic and Rangers would dominate and ruin the competition.
At the same time, i think we should keep it to us on the island as the whole idea is that it's specifically an All-Ireland competition.
