The Managing Director of Aer Arann, Padraig O'Ceidigh, is to join the Board of Galway United FC as the club strengthens its team off the field ahead of the new season.
Also joining the Board of Directors will be Galway property developer Peter Gilhooley of GK Construction, Colm Feeney, MD of Source and Supply Logistics, which employs 75 people at its Oranmore base, and Fearghal Murphy, Sales & Marketing Manager with the Jona Group whose businesses include Cuba Nightclub, The Cellar Bar, Bar903, Harvest Off Licences and Kynes Supervalu of Moycullen.
Club chairman John Fallon said that new additions would consolidate the work of the existing Board, which has been together for the past year.
The Board represents a cross-section of Galway business, legal, political, financial and sporting sectors and includes Deputy Michael D Higgins, who is President of Galway United, former Mayor Martin Quinn, Donal Downes, Bernie O'Connell, Nial O'Reilly, Geraldine Shields, Sean Hynes, Gerry Rabbitt, and Diarmuid D'Arcy.
"This season is the most important ever for Galway United with the changes proposed by the Genesis Report set to be implemented this year.
"Accordingly, it is very encouraging to have the backing of such talented people coming on board. Stephen Lally and his management team have put a very good squad together, so it is equally encouraging to make such quality signings off the pitch," said John Fallon.
Meanwhile, Galway United have established the club's administrative office at Terryland Park.
"We have been renting office space from Salthill Devon at Drom but it will be more convenient to be based at Terryland Park. We are very grateful to the Galway FA for accommodating us.
"We will continue to train at Drom, where the facilities are excellent. We have entered into a commercial agreement with Salthill Devon for the season which is based on the figure we have paid over the last couple of years," said Fallon.
Excellent news, having one of the top businessmen in Ireland in Padraig O'Ceidigh surely says a lot about the future for the club and the path we are taking. To think only 2 or 3 seasons ago we were worried about no senior football being played in this city again, we have come along way and long may it continue.
Now, lets match this progress on the pitch !
Comon United.
